Archaeologists say the mummies are still in good condition after so many years
Archaeologists have unearthed 59 coffins carved out of 2,500-year-old stone in Egypt.
Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the country's archeology department, said on Saturday (October 3rd) that he had found the archeological site.
He said, “We are very happy to discover this two and a half thousand year old coffin. Even after all these years, the inner mummies are in very good condition. ” They will also be housed in the newly built Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids of Giza, he said.
An Al Jazeera report said 13 stone coffins were found three weeks ago in the Sakkara area, 32 kilometers south of the capital Cairo. Then on 22 September 26 more coffins were found.
Incidentally, in the 70's, the area was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
