Tip of the day - How to get good colours in the image?

Getting good / right / correct colours in an image is a combination of multiple parameters. One of them being the RAW converting application you use.

As a digital photographer, you need to have a firm understanding of colour management and know which application to use to process what kind of image.

I use a combination of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR), Canon DPP and Nikon Capture NX-D depending on how I want my final image to look.

Take this example of the Sarus Crane shot in early morning golden light at Bharatpur. No changes done in RAW processing application. I opened it in respective applications and exported to jpg in photoshop.

ACR makes the image very flat whereas Canon DPP takes into account the picture style you had used and uses those settings and hence the colours looks more vibrant.

It's your choice to decide which one to use. But having this core understanding on how each application behaves and displays the colours is important.

Next time do not blame the camera that it is not giving you good colours.
