Trigger warning. This topic is sensitive and contains abuse and violence. I will not put pictures and audio.

Due to some situations that I have been witnessing on Social Media, I decided to make an article about child grooming to let others know how this happens and what to do if this happens to our loved ones.

What is CHILD GROOMING?

Grooming a child may sound innocent and what mother usually does for their children but THIS IS AN ACT OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.

This is far from being innocent. This is in fact, attacking an innocent child's mind in order to get the trust of the child and allowing to make the abuse appear natural.

Grooming is the process of luring, befriending and building trust and emotional relationship with a younger person (particularly innocent children) in order to

  • Manipulate

  • Exploit

  • Sexually Abuse (rape, molestation)

  • Human Trafficking (child pornography)

There are many unsaid cases happening all around the world regarding this issue but many have no idea that it is already happening in their very own household.

What are the Signs of Child Grooming?

According to SOS Magazine, child predators' key action to get a victim is through grooming.

  1. Giving special attention to the child.

  2. Buying gifts for the child for no reason.

  3. Being isolated with the child in situations likeĀ babysitting, tutoring, coaching.

  4. Offering an ear to listen to the child when they need to talkĀ while being sympathetic and understanding.

  5. Offering to buy alcohol or drugs for the child.

  6. Spending time with the child while they are showering, or undressed.

  7. Sexual jokes and talking about sex.

  8. Touching the child in the parentā€™s presence to make the victim believe the abuse is okay. This can be as simple as a hug.

  9. The victim doesnā€™t want to be hugged or touched by the abuser.

  10. The predator shares common interests with the child that you know they donā€™t have any interest in.

Be aware of your children/siblings whereabouts at all times. Ask about their opinion personally about who they spend most of their times with. Stay alert if they act strange around other people. JUST BE THERE FOR THEM. Have deep conversations. Don't be afraid to ask because we'll never know unless we ask. Listen to your child, this is the most important.

CHILD GROOMING is a VIOLATION against the LAW. It should be reported! Don't hesitate to report predators that you know and let the JUSTICE prevail.

I really wanted to write an article about this as soon as I read an issue about someone in Showbiz to let everyone know about this crime. Hope this helps.

I didn't know that this term exist, šŸ¤” this is the first time I heard or read this.

What you are talking about are pedophiles and incest. In most cases this is an act done by men? Holy men/religious men included.

I wonder what you mean by "and what mother usually does for their children". (Step)Fathers, brothers, uncles, teachers, are the one you should be aware off.

yeah predators are associated with pedo and those who like incest which is scary. in most cases it could be our close relatives or professionals who use their authority for this kind of crime. :(

grooming can sometimes look like the genuine love and care of a real mother to her children but the truth it there is a motive of really just using the child for sexual desires. that's why i said "and what mother usually does for their children.

Sorry but I still don't get the picture. Mothers care in a different way than men, behave differently. No child will think a (strange) guy being interested, attentive acts like his mom. Children with moms like these will not be the first choice of these men but neglected children are, lonely children and very sensitive children with low self-esteem.

okay i do get where you're coming from and i think when i wrote about how mothers usually treat their children is when predators act like they really care on the well-being of a child. yes, it is true that abusers usually attack those who are neglected by their parents or some child who lacks attention by their guardian. :) also, children are naive and innocent that even when someone is already manipulating them by showing love, they don't see it as a treat. plus, not all abusers are men (i will just say this if u think i only meant men abusers)

seriously, thank you for this. i am happy someone is giving me more opinion abt this. :)

@AngryKoala i think you can offer a bit of insight on this. As for me, I've read events like these from old forensics cases where the child doesn't even realize what happened, only to understand fully on their teenage or adult years. It's disgusting

it really is disgusting and i hope no child goes through this again :( many predators are still out there so we really need to be vigilant and extra careful.

Can't be helped though, majority of the time, the offenses are done by their own parents or relatives or maybe someone they know and through the grooming, it's basically like conditioning the child to not disappoint the person who spoils them so the child will end up doing anything so that the person keeps spoiling them

exactly. it turns to be natural that no on would suspect the predator which is really scary. the child would grow thinking that he/she is obligated to follow the adult who basically spoiled them. even the closest person could be the predator which could lead parents the child to someone and that's why abuse starts :((
