Women Empowerment

The development of the modern state was influenced by many different forces. One of them is undoubtedly the role of the family, where a woman has no fewer rights than any other person. However, with a little luck, this phenomenon has been transformed into the idea of gender equality. But even though we have reached some progress in the 21st century, the situation is still not as clear as it should be. As a rule, women are more dependent on men, they do not have the same power as a man. The ability to earn a living and the education of their children is limited. Moreover, women still feel that they're just a piece of the puzzle - this time men. We're going to look at how women can overcome this obstacle.

Why women matter

One of the ways we can understand why women matter so much is by looking at what they've been doing for a long time. In ancient times, when society was very patriarchal, every single activity a woman did was viewed as a threat to her position. This meant that to maintain her honor, she had no choice but to keep quiet and wait in submission to everything men told her to do. Then came the Renaissance. A new way of thinking began; an individual began to become a self-defined, distinctive personality. He or she would be a writer, musician, or artist. It was a big step forward for Europe because now women could develop certain characteristics which before that were considered to be the preserve of males. These were called virtues. They included courage, intelligence, generosity, and piety. The first woman to receive praise for virtue was Catherine DE Medici; she was also one of Europe's most famous historical figures. She promoted the rights of all women and was able to create the institution of marriage, thereby helping spread Christianity throughout Europe.

Women are being suppressed

It's easy to judge a book by its cover or to listen to a stranger to find out about his or her intentions. So many people are always telling us that women's issues aren't important enough. And if they are - I don't think they should be ignored. What does all this mean? Well, let's discuss two topics; the lack of power and respect in the workplace and the discrimination against transgender people. Let's start with the latter. At the end of the last century, the number of transgender people skyrocketed. Many scientists have tried to explain the cause of this increase. According to Dr. Jelena Stankovic-Pilar's study, around 1% of those who want to be born male choose to enter opposite-sex hormone therapy. Of course, these numbers may differ depending on whether you count biological boys and girls or those who have transitioned since birth, and those who were raised without hormones. Some researchers claim that trans women are victims of rape, physical abuse, and bullying. Others believe that this treatment is necessary due to a lack of self-confidence in women. All of these explanations can be found in "Transgenderism" by Laura Hillman. One thing is clear: while cisgender women might face hostility and violence, transgender women often face rejection and mistreatment. Whether it is because of their appearance, sexual orientation, or gender identity - there exists a prejudice against them, and many women are not willing to stand up to it. There is a great deal that can be done to change this situation, but it takes strong solidarity - we need other people, and the right allies to fight together. To get started, we must know more about trans women and trans men. If we have heard someone say that he or she feels trapped and is desperate for help, then perhaps we should pay attention to this person's story and address their concerns. In addition, one thing that can help us is providing support to women who are afraid to talk about their problems. Everyone should know that it is possible.

A positive example

Now, if there is something that both men and women could do together, I think it is easier than anyone thinks it is to bring up the topic of violence against women. We can start right away, by talking to our friends and neighbors who experience sexism, racism, and homophobia. You can encourage each other to speak out if you are experiencing harassment in public places, like shopping malls or restaurants, but also in private settings, such as your bedroom. Encourage your partner to seek information from the police and prosecutors regarding possible cases involving domestic abuse and assault. If you live with a family member, tell him or her about the risks of giving alcohol or drugs to children. Don't leave your child home alone. Ask around about the behavior of another family member and provide support if needed. If you live near a park, let him or her know about the dangers of smoking cigarettes, drinking too much, or using recreational marijuana on the playground. Talking with neighbors and passersby is an effective way of making sure that women's voices are heard at work, and you will never be left hanging in the dark.
