[Last updated: 2020-08-09 06:30 UTC] ***Success requires final 7.5% by 2020-08-09 14:52 UTC.*** **Thanks** to more than 50 generous contributors, the Flipstarter funding campaign for **mainnet.cash** has reached 92.5% of its pledge goal. *Given that the entire campaign has run during a time when all eyes have been on the drama developing around the upcoming scheduled BCH hard fork,* ***this is an impressive showing!*** **However,** with less than 9 hours left in the campaign, **total pledges are about 56 BCH or 7.5% short of the campaign goal.** Due to the way that Flipstarter currently works, **if the pledge goal is not 100% met, the mainnet.cash project will receive ZERO funds from this campaign** (all pledged funds will remain in pledgers' wallets and unfrozen). **Time is running out, so please act quickly and make your most generous contribution.** The minimum pledge limit is now below 0.1 BCH (~30 USD). This may seems kind of complex to understand
I'm little bit confused in understanding this.
We don't need to deceive ourselves, project like this needs tangible sources of funding not just donations.
We do not have to make an either-or choice here. I believe that there is a place for donations from the public in campaigns like this one AND there is a place for transparent and voluntary funding by various companies and individuals in the BCH ecosystem. I see evidence in our recent experience showing that Flipstarter-like donation campaigns can be a significant source of funding. Four substantial BCH infrastructure projects (BCHD, BCHN, Bitcoin Verde, Knuth) have received donations totaling 2,039 BCH through Flipstarter campaigns. In the mainnet.cash campaign itself, 40+ donors have already committed a total > 640 BCH. I am not aware of any of these being retracted, though each pledger has the right to do that at any time before the campaign closes. When the campaign deadline is reached, if the goal has been met, "tangible" funds will immediately be transferred to the project's proposer. Finally, I know from personal experience that for individuals who have a passion for the Bitcoin Cash vision, a great deal of personal satisfaction can be obtained from making a voluntary gift to those individuals and teams who are and will be making this vision happen! I don't understand your viewpoint here. The campaign linked to clearly states that they think this is enough to get started, and they are also upfront and honest about that it is not going to be enough to get to where they want to go in the end. Are you saying that we shouldn't fund this 750 x $300 => $225k campaign because you think it will ultimately fail to produce value?
A cost estimate is made for each project. If the right one is made, it does not matter where the money comes from. If it comes from the donations, it is just as good as if it came from other funding. Donation financing is financing like any other.
