How to make concrete pots?

Concrete pots are a wonderful addition to the garden, but often such decor comes with a high price, huge dimensions and incredible weight, so it is difficult to carry. Solution? Make your own.

Concrete pots are solid and will last you for many years, and once you design a mold, you can make as many pots as you want.

Procedure:

1. Make a mold by using two bowls, one slightly larger than the other. You can combine different shapes, as long as the smaller container can fit into the larger one. The greater the difference in their size, the thicker the walls of the pot will be.

2. Coat the inside of the larger and the outside of the smaller bowl with edible oil. Use wax for wooden pots.

3. Cut at least two or three pieces of PVC pipe that you will use to create drainage holes in the concrete pot. If you do not have PVC pipes, a piece of styrofoam can also be used as a drainage bottom.

4. Put on gloves to protect your hands from the cement. Mix the cement according to the instructions on the package and add concrete paint if desired.

5. Pour the cement into a larger container. Stick pieces of pipe into the concrete, making equal distances. Align the concrete around the pipes, but be careful not to cover them, so that the holes can be used for drainage. If you use styrofoam put it on the bottom of the pot before you manage the cement.

6. Carefully push the smaller container into the larger one all the way to the top of the pipe or to the styrofoam. Place some heavier object in a smaller container to hold the position.

7. Add more cement between the large and small container if necessary and then shake well or tap lightly on the walls of the container so that the residual air in the concrete comes out and does not create cavities.

8. Leave the concrete to stand for at least 24 hours and then remove the smaller container. Spray the concrete with cold water.

9. Cover the dish with nylon and let it stand for seven days. Water the concrete pot as often as needed to maintain humidity.

10. Remove the large bowl as well and that’s it. You made a concrete pot!

How to make rubber pots?

Do you have old car tires and don't know what to do with them? Among other things, they can serve as pots for the yard. There are countless ways.

First of all, keep in mind that some research has shown that tires slowly release toxic chemicals into the environment over time, so planting edible plants in them is not recommended, but for other plants it is a completely safe material.

The simplest way to turn a tire into a pot is to wash and paint it well, then put it in the desired place in the yard, and then fill it with soil and plant flowers. The combination of several multicolored tires will surely be a very noticeable detail in your garden.

If you have more patience, you can cut the tire in various ways and use a sharp and strong knife or jigsaw for this purpose. You will have more space for planting in the tire if you cut its side, but only on one side, because the other serves as a support on the ground.

Before filling the tire with earth, place a geotextile or several layers of old newspaper on the bottom.

You can also zigzag the sides of the tire. First mark where you need to cut with chalk on the eraser and then get to work. Cut along the marked lines but do not go all the way to the edge of the tire. When you cut the intended part, turn the tire to the other side and repaint it.

Rubber pots do not have to be laid on the ground, the yard can be decorated with hanging ones. It is important that you do not forget to drill drainage holes in the bottom of the pot with these pots.
