A terrible fire accident
took place in Savar, A
sub district in the Greater
Dhaka Area on 11 January
2016, on eight storey
commercial building Farid
Plaza.
Smoke engulfed the whole
building as a result of
which the people inside
the building could not
come out. The fire brigade
and civil Defence personnal
rushed to the spot to
extinguish fire. Army has
been deployed to quicken
recue work. No specific
cause of the fire is yet
know but the garment
authority says that it
has been originated from
short circuit. Total death
tool is 1,129. The number
of injuries has already
exceeded 2,500. They
have been taken to different
hospitals. Some of them
are severe danger. It is
strange but true that
there was no active fire
extinguisher in the factory.
It is considered to be
the deadliest garment
factory accident in modern
human history.
