Not-so-busy Sunday

Today is just another Sunday like any other. I awoke a little earlier than usual, at 6 a.m., just like the previous Sundays. I made myself a cup of black coffee, took a bath, and got ready for our religious meeting, which was held through Zoom. We've been doing this for almost a year, so it's become second nature to us. Because the meeting ended early, I ate my lunch early as well. I had booked a get - together with my pals because it had been a long time since we had seen one other. We're all busy with our everyday activities: I work as a teacher, my cousin works in an office, and our other buddy is married while working at the same time. We hardly see each other these days due to our hectic schedules. We don't talk much on messaging applications either, but we're still friends, and that's the only thing that hasn't changed. As I previously stated, we had planned a get - together, but I was undecided about attending because first, I don't have any money because all of my money was spent on materials for a project at home, second, I have a lot of things to take care of, such as creating instructional materials for tutoring, and third, I just want to stay at home. But my cousin is too persuasive, so after the tenth second thoughts, I decided to go. Instead of hanging out at the malls or other places with just the three of us today, we decided to pay a visit to an older friend who is going through a difficult time; she's been through a lot and I heard she was on the verge of depression. We made the decision to make her happy, even if it was just for a short time. This friend is much older than us, yet she is more than a friend to us; she is a sister and a family member. She's been through a lot, as I indicated. Her first son died while mountain climbing in 2016. I witnessed her hurting as a result of that tragedy. Despite the passing of time, she still sheds tears whenever she speaks of her son. Then, in 2018, she was separated from her only daughter by thousands of kilometers when she decided to work in Israel to aid her struggling family. But the unfortunate part is that they discovered she has cancer few months after she came. She died a few months ago, just a week after arriving home from Israel. The only good thing is that she was reunited with her loved ones before passing away.  My friend is left with her remaining kid, who is regrettably the family's black sheep and causes her a lot of stress. Worse, the friend I'm referring about is also bedridden. She was in an accident when she was younger, and she has only been able to move half of her body ever since. Her spouse can only make a small profit these days due to the pandemic. My friend's situation is extremely tragic and difficult, therefore I realize how sad her life is. But she is an incredible woman who is still striving to live her life to the fullest and sets an encouraging and inspiring example for others. So we wanted to make her happy today. We danced for her despite our lack of dance talent, made a fool of ourselves, and even sung for her in sign language. She cried as she saw us humiliate ourselves. I also printed a photograph of the four of us with the biblical passage ***"There is a friend who sticks than a sister. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend!"..***  She was moved and impressed by the tiny gesture. And she's grateful that we took some time out of our busy schedule to pay her a visit. I also assured her that I would return during the weekend. I just hope I'll be able to keep that promise. I opted to leave and go home at 4:30 p.m. since I needed to prepare for my tutorial class. I prepared educational materials, and my tutee arrived at 5 p.m. It was over at 6 p.m., and I was finally done for the day. It's not as hectic as the preceding day, but I'm pleased since I feel accomplished and satisfied with how my day went. `Lead image from unsplash.`
