The Mercedes-Benz car manufacturer uses blockchain technology in several innovative products
Daimler, the manufacturer of "Mercedes-Benz" cars, revealed its active use of blockchain technology in its various production processes, according to the "Ledger Insights" report issued on September 24, 2020.
Daimler explores blockchain technology:
"Daimler AG", a German multinational automobile company that manufactures commercial vehicles and luxury cars such as "Mercedes Benz" cars, has revealed a number of blockchain-based projects it is currently working on.
Through the “Startup Autobahn” exhibition that was held on September 24, 2020, the leading automobile manufacturer participated in some of the decentralized identity projects it is currently working on in cooperation with some of the major blockchain companies including “Spherity” and “Ontology”.
Specifically, Daimler and Spherity are developing a blockchain-based decentralized identity solution powered by Hyperledger Indy.
The team says that the system allows institutions to easily prove their identity and credentials, and automatically sign agreements.
In addition, Dilmer is also working with Ontology and leveraging its blockchain to develop the MoveX service, a decentralized identity solution aimed at enabling users to enjoy various mobility services without sacrificing privacy.
Benefits of relying on blockchain technology:
Commenting on the innovative initiatives, Dr. Harry Burns, Head of the Daimler Mobility Blockchain Factory, emphasized that the decentralized identity brings tremendous benefits to clients, as he stated:
Innovation enables you to combine services from different companies and deliver them to the customer as if one company had delivered them.
Clients are recognized once, across the entire system, so they can sign transactions with any of the operators.
This is one of the advantages of blockchain and this is the true revolution behind blockchain technology and distributed ledger.
Daimler and Mercedes-Benz made their way towards blockchain technology. In 2018, Daimler introduced the “MobiCoin” coin as part of plans to reward green driving habits.
It is worth noting that Mercedes first announced its plans to adopt blockchain technology in February 2019, when it unveiled plans to test revolutionary technology to bring greater transparency to the supply chain.
Earlier in January 2020, Mercedes-Benz launched a blockchain trial aimed at tracking carbon dioxide emissions across its cobalt supply chain.
