Every 30 hours someone in the world becomes a millionaire

Every 30 hours, a billionaire or a centurionaire has become a world in the midst of the Corona pandemic. International charity Oxfam announced this information in the context of the start of the annual conference of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. 

The organization says that 573 new people have become millionaires or billionaires in the world during the corona epidemic. That is, one millionaire every 30 hours.

The conference started on May 22. The conference will continue till May 26. The world's influential politicians, businessmen, billionaires, CEOs are gathering in Davos to participate in this conference.

After the start of the Davos conference, Oxfam said today on Monday, as Corona has created new millionaires, on the other hand, this epidemic has pushed many people below the poverty line. 

Oxfam estimates that 26.3 million people in the world will fall below the extreme poverty line this year. If so, every 33 hours 1 million people will be extremely poor.

Oxfam has also called for a 'solidarity tax' on those who have become millionaires during the pandemic. The agency says the tax should be levied to help people hit by price hikes. This tax can also be used to fund sustainable recovery from the pandemic.

Oxfam says now is the time to stop profiteering from the crisis. The agency has also voted in favor of introducing an additional tax on such profits of large corporations on a temporary basis.

According to Oxfam, an annual tax of 2 percent on the wealth of millionaires and 5 percent on the wealth of centenarians would raise 2.52 trillion US dollars in a year. 

If this tax is collected from the rich, it is said that it is possible to eliminate the poverty of 230 million people in the world, make adequate vaccinations and provide universal health care for people in poor countries.

Oxfam gave this calculation by analyzing the data of the World Bank along with Forbes magazine's list of billionaires.
