738 days on the tree
The dress name is Julia Lorraine Hill. However, he left out the 'Lorraine' in the middle of the name and added 'Butterfly' to it. Because, literally, a butterfly sat in his hand one day. He was only seven years old!
Now she is known all over the world as Julia Butterfly Hill. Julia was born on 18 February 1974.
Julia is a resident of Missouri, USA. At the age of seven, he went on a day trip with his parents. At that time a butterfly landed on his finger. It did not move from there during the whole trip. After that, Julia put 'Butterfly' as her middle name. Even today he kept it carefully.
The importance of the work he did at the age of 23 was immense. At that time, Julia was sitting on the trunk of an ancient tree to save it. Then spent 738 consecutive days! After more than two years, he forced a greedy American company to fulfill his demands.
Growing up in Mount Vernon, Missouri, Julia was career conscious like many others. He started working at the age of 16. From serving food to management at the restaurant, Julia was constantly running.
Julia, 22, nearly died in an accident while in middle school. In August 1996, he was sitting next to a friend on the road in Arkansas, driving for him. At that time the road accident happened. Another car hit hard from behind. The steering wheel hit Julia's head. After that accident, Julia lost the power to talk or walk for a year. Recovered after long treatment. But that accident turned his life around.
Julia said, 'After recovery, I realized that the balance of my whole life was disturbed...I have been earning continuously since the age of 16 after passing from high school. Inclination towards career, success and all worldly matters. That car accident woke me up!'
Julia also said, 'That car accident showed the value of every moment of life. I thought of doing whatever I could for positive steps in the future. The steering wheel that went into the head, turned my life in a new direction!'
After recovering, Julia began to search for a spiritual path. At that time he also started collecting money to save the forest. He saw local residents taking turns sitting under a giant tree in Humboldt County's redwood forest. The purpose is to prevent the people of the American Pacific Lumber Company (PCL) from cutting down that redwood tree in California.
The tree in Humboldt County was so large that it nearly covered the Stafford area. Local people called the tree 'Stafford Giant'. Residents claimed that landslides occurred in the area due to indiscriminate cutting of trees by PCL. The entire Stafford area was submerged in 17 feet of mud. This is from 1996.
The environmentalists are thinking of various ways to save the 180-feet-tall, nearly 1,500-year-old tree. A program is also being thought of by placing someone on that tree. Julia was not involved with any environmental organization at that time. However, he was the one who climbed the tree for the sake of the local residents.
Julia rode the Stafford Giant on December 10, 1997. In his words, 'not finding anyone else suitable to sit on the tree, everyone looked at me, liked me.' Then an impossible love story for nature was written. He spent in that tree till December 18, 1999.
That tree is also known as 'Luna'. There was a bright moonlight in the night sky as Julia climbed the tree. To commemorate that protest, the people around Julia at that time named the tree 'Luna', which is Latin for moon. In the middle of the night Julia tied the rope to the hook and climbed the tree.
For two years, Julia lived in a six-foot-by-four-foot wooden shack in Luna. He also learned how to cook in a cooker or exercise under a tree or run his mobile on solar power. He tied himself to a rope with a sleeping bag and slept in it. There was also an eight-member team providing food to Julia.
Julia kept in touch with the media while sitting on a tree branch. From there he participated in television shows or protests. It is also alleged that people were sent by helicopter by PCL to remove him from the tree. But she did not stop Julia.
PCL finally succumbed to Julia's single-minded protest. In 1999, the company agreed to Julia's proposal. An agreement was made with Julia that no tree would be cut within 200 feet of Luna. Then Julia agreed to come down from the tree.
After that movement, Julia's life also changed. So far he has addressed more than two and a half shows on the importance of environment protection. Wrote books. Involved with many voluntary organizations. Julia, the co-founder of an organization called 'Circle of Life Foundation', said that her goal is to change social attitudes about the environment!
