.For a long time, the beauty of the archipelago landscape from Sabang to Merauke has been so famous. The diversity that was summarized has even led Indonesia to the title of a megabiodiversity country. Nevertheless, the diversity of flora and fauna, the sea and its contents, to the proud green forests, could be threatened if we are not able to preserve them. There is a price that will not be paid if that happens.

So, preventing all forms of destruction of nature and the environment, especially those committed by greedy hands is the most obvious form that can be intensified to maintain natural heritage. Mendapuk or include an important area in the Biosphere Reserve program is one of them. What is a Biosphere Reserve? Let's see the explanation Biosphere Reserve is intended to protect and conserve the environment, as well as provide socio-economic benefits to local communities

.Simply put, a Biosphere Reserve is an ecosystem area whose existence is recognized internationally as part of UNESCO's Man and Biosphere (MAP) program. The aim of this program is to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, by involving local communities based on science. Areas that are recognized as Biosphere Reserves do not only aim to protect and preserve the environment. But also to provide socio-economic benefits to local communities starting from the land, sea and coast. This program was initiated by UNESCO since 1971. Until now, there are 714 Biosphere Reserves in 129 countries in the world.

Indonesia itself previously had 16 Biosphere Reserves that were recognized by UNESCO. Among them are Komodo Island, which has become a hot topic of discussion because of the ridiculous idea of "Jurassic Park", Mount Leuser, Siberut Island, Lore Lindu, Mount Gede Pangrango, Tanjung Puting, Giam Siak, Wakatobi Marine Park, Bromo-Semeru-Tengger-Arjuno, Taka. Bonerate, Blambangan, Berbak Sembilang, Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum Kapuas Hulu, and Rinjani. Most recently, UNESCO designated 3 new Biosphere Reserves in Indonesia

.Well, the good news is that UNESCO has just established three new Biosphere Reserves in Indonesia. Launching Kompas, this determination was announced at the 32nd session of the UNESCO International Coordinating Council (ICC) Man and the Biosphere (MAB) in 2020, on October 28, 2020.

The three new Biosphere Reserves are Bunaken Tangkoko Minahasa, Karimunjawa Jepara Muria, and Merapi Merbabu Menoreh. The total area of these three Biosphere Reserves reaches 2,237,373.26 ha. With this, Indonesia has 19 Biosphere Reserves that are recognized worldwide. Executive Director of the National Committee for the Indonesian MAB Program - LIPI, Y. Purwanto, said that 19 Biosphere Reserves in Indonesia have a total area of 20% of the total area of the existing Biosphere Reserve. According to him, this achievement could be Indonesia's momentum in implementing various conventions related to the environment, biodiversity and climate change. Well, here is an overview of Indonesia's three new Biosphere Reserves.

.Located in the heart of the Coral Triangle of the Indo-Pacific region, the Bunaken Tangkoko Minahasa Biosphere Reserve covers 746,405.92 ha of land and sea areas, covering ecological systems, mangrove and coastal forests, to terrestrial ecosystems. The underwater world of Bunaken has around 390 coral reefs, 3,000 species of fish, algae and seaweed. So it's no wonder Bunaken is also famous as a diver's paradise. 2.
