The Earth is Greener, the Air is Getting Hotter

.Based on monitoring from NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration's) satellites, the earth has experienced a greening of 5% in the last two decades. This research was carried out from 1998 to 2018. This green land has continued to increase from year to year to the present. This green land comes from the development of agricultural land, forests and grasslands.

However, the temperature is getting hotter even though the earth has experienced expansion of green land from year to year. Even in Indonesia in 2020 experiencing the worst summer in September. The existence of La Nina apparently has no impact on decreasing the earth's temperature. Even though La Nina can make the earth's temperature decrease so that the air gets colder.

Based on a recent study published in Nature Sustainability, this expansion of green land has a relationship with rising earth temperatures. Based on that research photosynthesis is the main reason. The more CO2 the earth has, the photosynthesis will increase. This also makes green land more extensive. For ordinary people, an earth that is getting greener is considered a good sign because it can reduce the greenhouse effect. In contrast to what experts feel, according to them, an increasingly green earth is a sign of a more serious global threat. Because trees will reproduce quickly if they get a lot of CO2 intake. For this reason, the amount of CO2 is directly proportional to the number of trees.

Based on research in Chile, tree uniformity in one place is not effective in absorbing gas emissions. A forest that has uniform trees will only cause competition to absorb CO2. This is also the main reason tree planting will not be sufficient if it is not balanced with reduced gas emission income. This is because trees are only able to slow down the rate of additional emissions by about 50%. The rest will be absorbed by the sea and land. The parts of the earth that are currently experiencing continuous expansion of green land are the European Union countries, Canada, Russia, India and China. Of a number of places, the one with the highest achievement was China and followed by India. Mainland China has experienced reforestation of up to 13.51 million square kilometers or 17.80%. Meanwhile, India has experienced reforestation of up to 3.65 square kilometers or 11.10%. Their government has implemented a program to protect and restore forests on a large scale.

This is very inversely proportional to Indonesia which is included as the 4th country which has the largest area of vegetation. The cause is due to changes in land use change from vegetation to non-vegetation. This change in function conversion was caused by forest fires. In addition, excessive logging and deliberate burning of forests have also contributed to reducing the number of forest populations in Indonesia. Although the expansion of green land is not very effective without reducing gas emissions. The government should continue to aggressively socialize in developing wider green land. Because not only can it reduce the effect of greenhouse gases, but the air will be cooler, prevent water levels from rising, reduce the occurrence of extinctions, so that it can take advantage of the planted trees. Through the vastness of green land, not only humans will experience the benefits but other living things can also enjoy it.
