music According to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), music is the science or art of arranging notes or sounds in sequences, combinations, and temporal relationships to produce compositions (sounds) that have unity and continuity. Reported by the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), music is an art that combines vocal or instrumental sounds for the beauty of forms or emotional expressions. Usually conforms to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and harmony. Music is an art that penetrates every human society.
History of music
Music has been known to humans since the era of Homo Sapiens around 180,000 to 100,000 years ago. In the early 20th century, music was considered commonplace. Where the musical notes are characterized by the regularity of their vibrations. The uniform gives it a steady tone and differentiates its voice from noise. In the book History of Music and Appreciation in Asia (2012) by Sila Widyatama, music is the appreciation of the human heart which is expressed in the form of regular sounds with melody or rhythm and has a beautiful element or harmony. The term music is known from the Greek danger, namely "musike". Musike comes from the word muse-muse, namely the nine Greek gods under the god Apollo who protected arts and science. In Ancient Greek methodology, it means a beauty that comes from the generosity of the gods who are manifested as talents. Then Okel Pythagoras emphasized that understanding, that music is not just a gift (talent) from the gods, but music occurs because of human reason in forming theories. Pythagoras, who was the first musical numerologist and laid the foundation for acoustics. In acoustics the Greeks found a correspondence between the pitch of a note and the length of the string.
Music elements
Music elements consist of several groups which together form a single unit to form a song or musical composition. The following are the elements of music: Harmony Harmony is a sound harmony which is a combination of two or more tones with different high and low levels. Harmony is a combination of several notes sounded simultaneously or arpegic (sequentially). Rhythm Rhythm can be defined as a sound or group of sounds with varying note lengths and notes stress or accent. Rhythm can be interpreted as rhythm, which is the composition of the length of the tone and depends on the value of the note points. Rhythm is a series of movements that are the basic elements in music. Melody A melody is a series of notes (sounds with regular vibrations) that are heard sequentially and together by expressing an idea. Melodies are used in song compositions as fill or core vocals. Song form or song structure Song form is the arrangement or relationship between the seasonal elements in a song. So as to produce a meaningful song composition. A song can be heard when it has a clear form or structure. Song structure is very important in the initial steps of creating a work of art.
The tempo sign The tempo mark is the speed in playing the song and the changes in that speed. The tempo sign is divided into three parts, namely slow, medium, and fast tempo. Tempo is often a challenge in music. When the tempo is irregular, it will affect the music being played. Expression Expression is an expression of thoughts and feelings that include tempo, dynamics, and color. Expression is very necessary in staging a musical work. A vocalist must be able to perform these elements. The element of expression also needs to be mastered by all music players. Timbre Timbre is the quality or color of sound. The presence of timbre is greatly influenced by the source of the sound and the way it vibrates.
