About 50 years ago, the company with the most employees in America was General Motors, today it is a retail chain called Walmart and while General Motors pays its workers $ 50 per hour, the hourly wage that Walmart pays today is about $8.
Walmart has 2.3 million employees worldwide, 1.4 million of which are employees in the United States. While the company was in the 1st place in the Fortune Global 500 list with a revenue of 482 billion dollars in 2016, the Turkish company KoƧ Holding, which managed to enter the list at 419th place, had a revenue of 25 billion dollars in 2016. So, only one company annual revenue of Walmart, Turkey's external debt (as of 2016, 421 billion dollars) is enough to shut down, staying above 60 billion dollars.
The word baldo in baldo rice, which we know as a rice variety, means brave, brave, and daring in Italian. The reason we used an Italian name is because this rice type originated in Italy.
A study by Swedish scientists revealed that human beings have a very strong discrimination ability regarding the sense of touch. That is, a person who touches a smooth-looking surface and moves his finger can feel a roughness as small as 13 nanometers. This means: If our finger were the size of the earth, when we touch the world, we could feel the difference between a house and a car with our fingertips.
Meanwhile, the nanometer is one billionth of a meter, so 1 nanometer = 0.000000001 meter. We can better understand what 13 nanometers mean: The thickness of the cell membrane is 12 nanometers. Human hair was 60,000 nanometers, the average condom thickness was 50,000 nanometers, and the thickness of the world's thinnest condom was 18,000 nanometers. So don't be fooled by those who advertise that you don't feel it, you won't feel it. We call it 13 nanometers.
The death rate in motorcycle accidents was 27 times higher than in car accidents. The reason for this is that most of the people do not wear helmets and consequently, their heads were damaged during the accident. The impact of the helmet on deaths as a result of motorcycle accidents was 37%. In other words, 1 out of every 3 people survived death because of wearing a helmet. Please wear your belt if you are driving or your helmet if you are using a motorcycle.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was appointed head of state after the death of his father in 2011. This friend actually had a stepbrother (separate from his mother) who was 12 years older than him, and his brother was expected to take over the state after his father. The brother named Kim Jong-nam wanted to enter Japan with 2 women and 1 child using fake passports in May 2001, but was caught by Japanese authorities. Of course, when it came to the media, this guy fell out of favor with his father, so our Kim Jong-un became the leader. An interesting piece of information I learned about the subject while writing these lines was that on February 13, 2017, Kim Jong-nam was killed by two North Korean female spies with a poison injection at Kuala Lumpur Airport in Malaysia. Certainly that maniac's work.
There were people who had an uncontrollable desire to travel, and this condition was called dromomania. People in this situation spontaneously leave their routines, travel long distances and acquire different identities and goals. It could take months for them to return to their old identities again. For a similar situation in German, there is a word called wanderlust. Wanderlust can be translated into Turkish as a desire to travel extensively, to travel the world. The difference between the two is that I think dromomania is more of a mental disorder than a desire.
A library called the Human Library was established in Denmark. The difference of this library from others is that you are borrowing a person with real life experiences, not a book from the library to read its story. You sat for half an hour with a politician, a prostitute, a homeless person, or a woman who was physically assaulted, listening to her unique story. The superiority of these books over an ordinary book is that in the middle of the story, you can ask any question about the story and get the answer. The Human Library idea has already started to spread from Denmark to various countries of the world. I think it's a good idea, though I wish in Turkey. Let's go and be a book.
