Understanding the Relevance of Philosophy in the Modern World #2

0 23

What is the difference between early modern world philosophy compared to ancient one? Was it a new modern philosophy or just another branch of ancient philosophy?

Early Modern World Philosophy vs Greek Philosophy

Some people questioned whether ancient Greek philosophy is still applicable in this new modern life. My answer is that it's still relevant and related. Because we humans have the same traits as people in ancient times, we are similar in the way we think, what makes it different is that we just evolved. All the problems they have are often still discussed in today's life.

Philosophy from Philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle is still being taught in schools or universities. Their thought and philosophical quotes and teaching are sometimes very related to the modern world.

I think early modern world philosophy is not new but is more considered the development of Greek or

ancient philosophy. We are not stable beings, we evolved during times, which means our problem is the same.  It's just in our modern world, that problem has evolved into other aspects.

For example, Socrates said in the quest of finding the truth, a person did not think alone, but always with another person, by discussing the matter. They didn't consider that person as an opponent, but as a friend who will seek the truth together.

While in early modern world philosophy, we still use that statement but we applied it in a new way, which is by discussing the matter on the internet. We are still, as Socrates said, discussing something with other people, only the way we discuss it is different. So the philosophy is still the same, but only the way we applied it has evolved. That is my opinion regarding early modern world philosophy vs Greek philosophy, it's just my opinion, you can agree or not.

The Moral Crisis In The Modern World Philosophy

Based on several articles mentioned on the internet, the moral crisis in modern world philosophy is mainly caused by technology, like the internet. I think technology in the modern world has been improving rapidly. And along the way, it has brought positive and negative outcomes.

Like what John Hendry wrote in his journal, The Crisis of Morality and The Moral Culture of Contemporary Society. One of the arguments concerning the demoralizing effects of technology and society generally.

Some of the issues are lack of sleep, ADHD, learning barriers, obesity, decreased communication and intimacy, depression, cyberbullying, loss of privacy, and other mental health issues. University of Michigan result study also mentions the negative effect of the internet, it's conclusion is that famous social media platform users tended to lead a decrease in happiness and life satisfaction. It's your choice to believe in the study or not.

Sum Up Understanding the Relevance of Philosophy in the Modern World

To sum up this topic, I would say that Greek or ancient philosophies are still applicable but with a twist, to adapt to the new and modern world. People have evolved and will continue to, the same with problems and way of life. They had evolved not only in their mind but also in behavior. Few of them had evolved into their better self, some still struggling to find themselves, while some didn't even care. So, my conclusion is nothing wrong with mixing the ancient one with the modern world philosophy, as long as it brings good for you and the world.
