Wearing facemask today has become the new normal lifestyle as the effect of the covid-19 pandemic which was originated in Wuhan, China. Many countries nowadays, regulated the use of facemask as a safety protocol and preventive measures to limit the spread of germs and certain viruses like covid-19.
What is a facemask?
Facemask is a mask or protective covering for the face or part of the face such as the nose and mouth to prevent the spread of the germs and viruses.
Different kinds of face mask
1) Surgical facemask
The surgical face mask is also known as a medical face mask. It is disposable which means you can only use it once. It is used as a barrier to splashes, droplets, and saliva. The surgical facemask is made of non-woven white and blue fabric created using a melt blowing process. The dark blue side of the mask is to be worn outward, with the white layer on the inside. The blue side of the mask has filters while the white side served as an absorbent material.
2) Respirator (N95, N99, N100)
Respirators are designed to seal tight to the face of the wearer. Respirators protect you from exposure to airborne particles such as bacteria and viruses. It has the mark of filtration like N95, N99, and N100 as the effect of filtering substances.
3) Cloth face mask
The cloth face mask is breathable and washable but doesn't filter air particles. It is commonly made of cotton and has a different textile-worn over the mouth and nose. It is more practical to use because you can use it many times, unlike a surgical mask and respirator.
How to wear face masks properly?
Make sure your hands are clean before wearing a facemask.
Wear it with blue color placing outside and the white fabric facing inside.
Make sure to cover your nose and mouth to chin.
Place the loop around your ear.
Make sure to press the concealed metal to fit the shape of your nose.
Proper disposal of a face mask
Disposed the mask by touching the earloop and avoid to touch the fabric.
Place it in a plastic or zip lock bag.
Tie the plastic or seal the bag properly before throwing it into a garbage bin.
Wash your hands thoroughly right after the disposal of a mask using alcohol or water and soap.
*You can also cut the mask using a scissor before throwing it because there is a rumor spreading that someone selling a used facemask by washing and flattening using an iron to make it look perfectly new.
