One of the symbols of Filipino culture especially in rural areas in the Philippines is what we called Bahay-Kubo or Nipa Hut. It is mostly made of light materials such as wood and bamboo. The roof was also made of light materials like nipa, anahaw, or coconut leaves. It is the most common and native house of indigenous families living in the Philippines island. It is also called payag and kamalig in other provinces. Though it could shatter by strong winds during storms it's easy to replace it because the materials are easy to find and very accessible. It is much inexpensive and sometimes it's free you just need some time and effort to get it in the forest or climb in the mountains.

I remember when I was a kid my Dad and my Godfather built Nipa Hut for our temporary shelter. But then I realized it was not temporary because we used to live there for so many years. During that time we also don't have an electricity yet so we use "gasera" which is known to be the traditional Filipino lamp. It was memorable for me because it was never failed to amaze me every single day. It completes my childhood experience and provincial life.
