It would be nice to see a purple paddy field in the middle of a huge green paddy field, wouldn't it? However, the question of whether there is such a purple paddy field at all is peeping in everyone's mind. Again, 'purple paddy field', weren't you surprised to hear the name? Have you ever seen or heard of such purple rice?
Most probably haven’t heard or don’t know.
In fact, the color of the leaves of this paddy is not only purple but also the color of paddy and rice is purple. The young leaves, however, remain green at first and later turn dark purple over time. And the biggest and most interesting thing is that it is not a foreign variety but the germplasm (sperm juice) of our native rice.
One of the scientists of our country
And former director general of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. Jiban Krishna Biswas said, "This color of paddy has existed in our country for a long time. Bangladesh Rice Research Institute has inaugurated this color of rice long ago. Scientists call it Purple Check."
However, the issue of this rice has recently come up in various media in 2017. Most of the people think that this paddy was first cultivated in Sundarganj of Gaibandha. And it has been named 'Dulali Dhan' after Mrs. Dulali of that area. However, there are differences in the name of the area. For example, Manjur Hossain, a farmer of Monogram in Comilla, named this paddy 'Bangabandhu Dhan'. This paddy is also being cultivated in other areas.
But "why is this rice purple?"
Studies have shown that excessive levels of anthocyanins and oxidants cause the rice to turn purple. Plastids are also responsible for leaf color.
The shape of this rice is thick but the rice is very tasty.
In addition, the advantages of cultivating this rice are: it is less cared for, disease is less or not, life span is shorter than other rice but 155 days, yield is good i.e. it can be approximately 20 kg in percentage and its nutritional value. So let's find out about its nutritional value.
It contains a lot of fiber and vitamin E.
Eating rice regularly reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer.
The juice of its leaves is effective in curing diabetes and Alzheimer's.
At present the cultivation of this paddy is increasing.
