Some of the most amazing animals on Earth are members of the viverrids family (lat.Viverridae). Some of them look like a cat, others look like a bear, otter or raccoon. In fact, they are a separate family of mammals from the order of carnivores.

Unfortunately, many civerrids are subject to hunting and captive breeding. They are obtained for the sake of tender fur and edible meat, but mainly for the sake of the civet ingredient, which is used in the perfumery and medicine industries.

Seven species of viverrids are included in the International Red Book; theirs:

What can these beautiful predators tell us?

Asiatic palm civet

"Kopi Luwak" is a type of coffee that is known especially for its particular processing method. The word "kopi" in the Indonesian dialect of the Malay language means "coffee", and the word "luwak" is the local name for the palm of the Asian palm. The process of making coffee beans "Kopi Luwak" consists in the fact that the palm civets eat ripe fruit of the coffee tree, dissolve the pulp surrounding the coffee beans and release the coffee beans in bowel movements, which are then collected by humans, washed and dried in the sun. The special luster taste of Kopi Luvak coffee is explained by the gastric juice properties of civets, which contain civets. Coffee Crunchy coffee is characterized by a balanced taste with a delicious bitterness, a unique shade of butter, nuances of nougat and honey, as well as a long, repetitive pleasant aftertaste. This coffee is currently commercially made in Indonesia, the Philippines and South India.

Legs can snatch objects with their own tail, which is not surprising, provided with a growth of 60-90 centimeters, the length of the tail is the same as the number of centimeters. And these animals weigh only 9-14 kilos, in very rare cases - up to 20 kilos. They live in trees precisely because of gaining the capabilities of their tail. But they do not jump like squirrels, their movements are calm, slow. Although Legs are predators, they are easy enough to tame. Because of these characteristics, Binturongs are often kept by humans in the form of pets. The only "but" that they neglected to leave the window as a pet was their uncontrolled and profuse urination.

The South Indian fox reaches a length of 43 to 62 cm, with a tail length of 38 to 53 cm. In some regions, foxes adapt to life alongside people, attic and stables are fixed. There were times when they damaged the coffee plantations.

Three striped civet

The name civet is associated with its color - there is a white stripe on the body, extending from the tip of the nose to the forehead, as well as three black stripes extending the entire length of the body. The three-lane civet habitats are rainforests, coconut and cocoa plantations.

This civet avoids human adjustments. The local population destroys civets as much as possible, as they consider them harmful animals that harm ripe bananas. In some places, they are hunted for meat, feathers and body parts used in folk medicine.

Veteran genetics range from Senegal to Somalia, southern to Namibia and South Africa. They are mobile, dexterous animals capable of jumping up to two meters in height. Not only do they climb well on the branches of trees and shrubs, but they also run well on the ground. Genetics have retractable claws, just like in a cat. In Africa, genetics are kept in homes for the extermination of rats and mice.

Fossa is the largest carnivorous mammal of the island of Madagascar, which at the same time is the most ancient representative of civerrids. Fossa tries to stay away from people, and only attacks pets in those rare cases when there are no other victims. The main food of the fossa is lemurs, which are caught by a smart hunter in the trees. Fossa has retractable claws, resting and licking, like all cats.

Maybe Owston

The homeland of Owston civet is forests and lowland forests in the basins of rivers of northern Vietnam, Laos and southern China. He digs holes under trees or thick bushes, and often lives in hollows.

The Ouston civet has teeth arranged in a completely different way for a placental mammal - the incisors are very wide and very close, as in some marsupials.
