Walking down the path of this ancient city will surely give you goosebumps. Seeing the ancient empty buildings, and thinking about the people that once used to live there adds a different vibe. This is the one best place that didn't get retouched and still holds the same structural appearance as before.

This city is from 1300AD (Bangla Calendar) and now we are at 1428. There are over 50 houses that still standing, not very strong but enough to give us a glance at our history. The name of the city was SubornoGram which means Golden village. It's because back then this region was full of resources and peaceful. Also, this used to be near the capital city so it was a happening place.

What amazed me most is the architectural significance of that time. The buildings look simple, not like the Mughal empire but got a British touch in the structure because of the impact of the British colonial era. The place looks amazing because of its ancient look. No wonder why this is one of the most visited tourist spots in Bangladesh.

One thing will make you surprised and that's the shape and structure of the rooms inside the building. Most of the rooms are like 12X12 feet, the roof is not more than 8 feet. Also, the windows are 2X2 feet, nothing is very wide.
I came to know that it was because they were ahead in the survival game. If the houses are attacked by the invader, then they will have a tough time going through different rooms, finding the main room to seize the house owner, searching in hundreds of rooms, etc. That's a clever idea, right?

Back then there was no cement so they used to use a different kind of clay to hold everything together. Also, some house roofs were made with wood instead of iron rod. You may not believe your eyes that the houses are still standing after centuries.

Another thing is, that most of the houses still got the name of the house owners. If you search, you can find the family history and all. Isn't it amazing?

Every house has a huge backyard and front yard. I didn't find sufficient information on the web about this city. Here's the wiki link. I got some more info in the Bangla language here and there.

Last month, we had a family tour there. We took our time to roam around the city and observe the historical place. I went there two times before. At that time the houses were open to tourists. But now they closed down for security reasons. So we couldn't see the inside of the buildings. But that's okay. Seeing them from the outside was a different experience for us.

However, one thing bothered me and that is the newly opened market inside the city. They sell many showpieces, jewelry, toys, and home decor products. I felt like those shops took away the beauty and vibe of the place. I would love to see the ancient city with having the old vibes.

There are many other tourist spots around the place. So if you visit this old city, you can also check out some other historical places as well. The day tour was well worth it, I promise.

Putting a market in the midst of such an ancient city feels like desecration to me
