Homemade 'Halim' - Authentic taste with a simple recipe.
Halim is one of my favorite Bangladeshi dishes. It's similar to a meat stew/soup but more flavourful. If you take a look at the ingredients then you will find why I said so. But thanks to the local brands that offer 'ready-made packets' which can be made in a shorter time and hassle-free. But it comes out delicious.
The authentic traditional recipe is a bit complicated and time-consuming. Because we need to prepare the mixture with different kinds of rice and lentils, as well as with a good amount of spices. The readymade packet comes with the mixture and spice mix separately. We need to cook them and add them to our preferred meat. They provide a detailed recipe with the packaging so you can enjoy Halim if you are living in other parts of the planet.
Let me share with you how we can make the dish taste authentic by using a readymade packet.
The trick is simple, cook the meat/beef curry properly with a decent amount of spices/follow the authentic recipe. I used beef this time but adding mutton also brings a delicious taste.
We need to cook the mixture desperately. Before that soak the mixture in warm water for at least half an hour along with the spices.
I added only onion and oil to cook the mixture because everything else is on the mixture and the beef curry. When the onion turns golden brown, add the mixture slowly and cook for at least half an hour.
We need to stir the mixture continuously, otherwise, it will get burned at the bottom.
Let it cook and add the curry on the top before serving. It tastes best when served hot. Squeeze a lemon for fragrance and some chili if you like it spicier. Also, adding coriander, and fried ginger slices bring the extra flavor.
Enjoy your Halim with naan roti/bread or solo. It tastes best in every way.
I hope this recipe will help you a little who is looking for authentic Bangladeshi cuisine.
That looks really delicious something that you could see in anime and something that my pakistani friend cooks. I want a taste of it 🤤
