For the moment, conservative America is celebrating a seemingly overwhelming new tide in the court; a seeming 6-3 majority. One thing here that seems certain, the Supreme Court is likely to remain decidedly corporate-friendly; and the Supreme Court is likely to continue making (some, albeit you would think fewer) liberal rulings.
Three major points here. First, if the court is now 6-3, you would have to do a double-take after some of the court's rulings just in the last few months as to what side it is 6-3 for. Chief Justice Roberts has ruled for a liberal majority on more than 1 case this summer (for example here). Conservatives were again in disbelief (here) as the Supreme Court ruled liberals 5-4, with Justice Scalia's replacement, Justice Gorsuch the deciding vote. Trump-appointed Gorsuch sided with liberals on a big case back in 2019 as well here. It could be reasonably argued that the court was, say, 4.5-4.5 or even 5-4 liberals going into Amy Coney Barrett. Further, whose to say that the supposedly 6-3 court won't see Scalia and Gorsuch team together to keep ensuring liberal victories for the Supreme Court. Right now, balance to Gorsuch and Roberts means ruling socially liberal and pro-globalist bankers (the conservative part).
Second, ACB's swearing in (here) by Justice Clarence Thomas may be more symbolic than many now realize. Justice Thomas has been hinting lately of retiring. Now that he could retire and not be seen as tilting the court, it stands to reason the odds of his retirement are increased. Perhaps even in the short-term. Then... on the subject of odds and percentages. Justice Thomas is a 100% conservative. Like Justice Alito, and former Justice Scalia, Justice Thomas has always decided cases in a conservative manner. He will not be replaced in that manner. Just as they couldn't find another Scalia when Gorsuch succeeded him.
Third, Amy Coney Barrett is a Jesuit. Or, at the very least, she is Jesuit educated, by Notre Dame; and thus very much in the Jesuit orbit. Currently, the Catholic Church is presided over by the first Jesuit Pope. Pope Francis is not only a tiny bit corporate-liberal-banker globalist, Pope Francis is all in on the corporate-globalist liberal agenda (here). This does not bode well for Barrett on the decision-making scale. 75% (in between a worst case 66% and a best case 85%). Based on her testimony it seems she will very early, and more than once, try to prove she can be independent.
The last 3 appointees of the Republicans have been corporate-first. Roberts does whatever he is called upon to do. Perhaps out of fear? Look what happened to Justice Scalia. Did he really just die in his sleep on an overnight trip to Texas? JFK met a barrage of bullets on his trip to Texas.
The Supreme Court has, does, and will at times decidedly shift in to new eras. Perhaps the foundational roots of ACB's truly conservative and religious past... perhaps she won't ever forget that. Perhaps she will rule as a conservative, all the time, and on the big cases. That's certainly the Democrats and progressive liberals fears. That's certainly all the hopes of conservative Christians today. Clearly, ACB will propel this court to make history for conservatives. Justice Roberts isn't always going to be able to be liberal. But for those so optimistic or worried about ACB just recall how Justice Roberts was presented to the American people. A model of conservative perfection, his kids dressed all clean and proper. Americans, sadly, have perhaps become a little too easy to buy into politicized presentations.
If the swearing in by Justice Thomas is a symbolic passing of the torch, the balance of the Supreme Court may not end up changing all that much. One thing is sure though. The Supreme Court will remain corporate-big government first. And that's really what probably needs balance more than anything.
