In the years following independence, 325 km of railways were closed. With that, 174 stations have been closed. As a result, the country's railway communication system has shrunk. A project worth Tk 1,202 crore was approved by ECNEC in 2016 to bring Magura district under rail connectivity. A 23.90 km broad gauge railway line is being constructed from Madhukhali in Faridpur to Magura town via Kamarkhali to connect Dhaka and other parts of the country through the Padma Bridge under implementation. The concerned people think that this will expand trade and develop internal communication in the region.
About 48 years ago, there was a railway from Faridpur Madhukhali to Kamarkhali. But it is no longer used. However, there is no railway from Kamarkhali to Magura. Under the project, the existing railway line from Madhukhali to Kamarkhali will be renovated and broad gauge and new railway line from Kamarkhali to Magura will be constructed. If this line is constructed, a railway network will be developed between Dhaka and Magura through Padma Bridge. This will directly benefit the marginalized people of the region. The project will also help alleviate poverty in the region. According to the Ministry of Railways, the project has been taken into consideration considering the historical context.
In 182, the railway journey in the region began with the construction of 53.11 km broad gauge railway line from Darshana in Chuadanga to Jagati. The Gorai Bridge was constructed in 1801 and extended to Goalandghat on 1 January 181. Considering the importance of carrying bamboo, cane and jute, especially in the south, a railway was laid on 1 January 1932 to Kalukhali Ghat in Rajbari. At the same time another branch line was constructed from Madhukhali to Kamarkhali. At that time the line was very important to the residents of the area. But this branch line was damaged in the liberation war of 1971. Which was later discontinued. After a long time, the residents of Faridpur-Magura are dreaming of a new railway connection in the area. People from different walks of life in Magura have expressed happiness in the hope that the construction of the railway line will start soon after the ECNEC bill is passed.
It is a great news for all the people of magura ..
