In 2016, New Delhi signed an agreement to buy 36 warplanes from the European country. As part of it, five first-stage raffle jets reached Ambala in Haryana on Wednesday, Anandabazar said. An Indian defense ministry official has hinted that the state-of-the-art fighter jets could be deployed in Ladakh. According to an agreement with France's Dassault Aviation, the remaining 31 fighter jets will arrive in India in phases by next year, according to a BBC report. New Delhi hopes that the deployment of these new warplanes will further enhance the capabilities and morale of the Indian Air Force. Most of the fighter jets in the Indian Air Force so far are Soviet-era. Indian military officials have been trying for decades to replace them with new state-of-the-art warplanes. Analysts believe that the five Rafale jets in the border tensions with China have increased the strength of the Indian Air Force, but now they cannot be reduced to combat.
