Be your own competition

It can be extremely easy for you to compare your work with other people’s work. When you start to compete with others, you’ll continue to judge your own life and your true self values that you do not strive for. Even if you deem yourself to be more successful under their values, you’ll only be completing something important to them and not to you.

Life can be a competition, but the race that you face doesn’t have to be against anybody else. A better way to refocus your efforts and harness competition is to look in the mirror and learn how to compete with yourself.

Here are some of the benefits of refocusing your spirit of competition so that you only see yourself as a competitor:

Appreciating the work of others:

When you compare yourself to someone else, appreciating the effort they've done or the success they've had can be fraught with jealously. When you're competing with others, you'll cease enjoying their efforts and find it tough to identify and appreciate their accomplishments.

When we are learning from others, healthy competition is excellent, but when we get overly competitive, we will begin to compare ourselves to others and cease seeing their efforts as a benefit to them achieving their values. It's worth praising someone who stays true to themselves and strives for what they believe in.

Learning new things from teammates:

It's difficult to build a good relationship with a teammate when you're too focused on outperforming them. You may share knowledge and grow if you can finally work together with people and focus on learning from one another.

You will be spending your life with blinders on if you restrict yourself by focusing your energy on making others appear bad or attempting to outperform others. When you regard them as continuous competitors, it's tough to relate to them, and it's even more difficult to learn from them as peers.

Learn as you go:

We live in a very results-oriented society. People enjoy bragging about their successes and achievements. What's actually important to value along the way is the training and knowledge you gain as you work toward a goal.

More essential than looking at results is refocusing your thoughts to accept your abilities and the knowledge you've gained.

Someone on a football team is an excellent example of this. We always expect someone to talk about their achievements on a football team in terms of trophies and championships. However, someone who has played football for years but has never won a championship should be able to tell about their experience, how they learned about teamwork, how they grew stronger, and how they used their skills to make a few fantastic plays along the road.

Concentrate on your strongest abilities:

We may understand what abilities are genuinely valuable to us and what we are good at when we spend time competing with ourselves rather than continuously pursuing the competition. Developing new talents is beneficial, but we will become irritated if we are always competing with people who may already be experts in that skill.

You should enhance your strongest areas and concentrate on developing new talents so that you don't become as frustrated in achieving expert status. It's possible that you're competing in the incorrect skill since it's valuable to someone else. Concentrate on honing the talents you want to develop.

Stop undermining others:

When you feel like you're in direct rivalry with someone, it's easy to sabotage them. When you evaluate your values and compete just with yourself, you will eliminate any negative thoughts you may have.

True champions and experts in a skill are uncommon, thus there will always be someone better than you. Being the best at something isn't something you have to strive for; each small step forward can be praised. When we understand that someone will always be better than us, we may concentrate on feeling better about the progress we make over time.

Consider some of these suggestions as you attempt to compete with yourself rather than others.
