Many planets, like the Earth, have other bodies revolving around them. These are known as natural satellites, but there are also artificial satellites created by man's invention, especially for communications.

The Moon is the Earth's natural satellite. The moon has no atmosphere. The lunar surface is composed of large craters, these are formed by the impact of meteorites on its surface. It has no light of its own, its brightness is due to the reflection of sunlight. The half of the Moon that faces the sun is illuminated, while the other half is dark. It performs two movements: rotation and translation around the earth during its movement four phases are observed: new moon, crescent, full moon and waning quarter.

The moon exerts a force of attraction on the terrestrial zone that is closest to it. As a consequence of the gravitational attraction of the moon, tides, which are changes in the sea level of water, originate. The gravitational force of the moon attracts the terrestrial waters towards the moon and the gravity of the Sun attracts them towards it.

The bible mentions that the moon is a natural satellite whose main function is to illuminate the earth at night.

See you in a future post!
