I'm sure you were quite intrigued by the first list, but let's look at ten more great reasons; maybe I'll be able to convince you this time!
1- Diversified Culture
There are more than forty tribes in Kenya, each unique in their own right.
Kenyans are vibrant and full of life and assume many different ways of living.
Let's take a look at the Kikuyus of Mt Kenya. As avid agriculturist, they sought to cultivate crops to sustain themselves. In the case of the Nilotes, they are known for livestock raring. There are even Kenyan's who love to dwell at rivers and lakes and make a living from fishing, they are known as Luo communities.
It's really interesting that these different communities don't just live differently but they speak different languages and dialects of their main language.
Cool right?
2- Vast Wildlife Diversity
The parks and savannahs are home to a variety of animals, maybe some species you never knew existed. You may think, why on earth would I venture out to see wild animals. Trust me, it's worth the journey. You're able to boost your knowledge on animals, their behaviors, feeding habits and even their reaction to humans.
If you're an animal lover, this will especially peek your interest.
3- Rich History
Believe it or not, Kenya was put on the map because of their link to the most complete fossil skeleton ever found. The specimen is insanely old, dating back to 1.5/1.6 million years. The researcher, Leakey sought to understand the development of Homo sapiens over time and was able to find the specimen known as the Turkana boy, also called Nariokotme boy.
You may not be that enthused about history, but this is an interesting finding, and it's worth exploring when you get to Kenya.
4- History and Origin of Kenya's name
Kenya got it's name from Mount Kirinyaga, the mountain of the gods in the local kikuyu dialect. The snow-capped mountain, also referred to as the mountain of whiteness, has a rich history as a sacred place for the inhabitants there, the kikuyu.
.............................................................................................................................................................It's name came from the fact that the white men were not able to pronounce ‘Kirinyaga’ and it went down into the books as the country ‘Kenya’. Even the mountain itself was documented as the present day ‘Mount Kenya’. One such version was done by explorer Johann Ludwig.
5-Women Empowerment
There are many countries battling issues of gender inequality, and it's hampering with the effective balance in society. Women all over the world, have been fighting for their rights, demanding to have same privileges as men. Women aren't giving up, and they believe that they must get some form of justice out of their actions.
Kenya is one of those countries that are standing up for their women.
It's amazing that, not just the women are striving for empowerment, they are also receiving support from some men.
I'm sure they're proud of their efforts, because the women are slowly 'trickling' into high positions in organizations and making a huge impact.
Kenya is paving the way for other countries, to never give up in their efforts.
6- The rift valley and it's lakes
The movement of earth's tectonic plates have formed a gorgeous sight to behold.
Found both on land and in water the Great Rift Valley is part of an intercontinental ridge system and splits Kenya from North to south.
It starts from Tanzania and continues northwards to Ethiopia. This adds a unique touch to the scapes of Kenya, and if you visit Kenya is certainly worth seeing.
There are at least seven lakes that are a part of the rift valley including; Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementaita, Turkana, Naivasha and Magadi.
These lakes are rich in flora and fauna, yet another chance to explore the rich diversity of Kenya.
7- Hunting
You may look at this one, wondering what can be fun about hunting?
Listen this!
Though hunting may be monitored by the Kenyan government, there are times that you are allowed to hunt, and fetch 'bush meat'.
These aren't only good for food as you are aware, you can also make lovely pieces of clothing, if you're into craft.
In case you don't want to do either, you can sell your 'catch' and make lots of money.
8- Hotel Diversity
I'm sure once you consult with your travel agent, trip advisor, expedia, booking.com, travelocity etc, you'll find the perfect location for you and your family to dwell. The hotels would fulfill your location, expenses, and even food requirements; the hotels are that specific. Whether you choose to be next to a mountain or a lake, spend $21,700 Kenyan Shillings per night, or eat mostly foods from their culture, you'll be pleased with the outcome.
One thing you should note though is, if you compromise your budget too much and always aim for lower prices, your stay in Kenya would not be as enjoyable as it should be.
Don't cut yourself short, you'll regret that!
9- Car Free Island
There is an island in Kenya, where there are no cars!
Yes you've heard right.
You could imagine or refreshing and clean the atmosphere is, over there.
Lamu town is an island located in the Lamu Island, which is part of the greater Lamu Archipelago. Lamu old town has a history of being inhabited for over 700 years ago. It is a peaceful tropical Island, where life is at its own pace.
Over the years, it's narrow roads have remained unchanged for whatever reason, and so people still have the privilege of pushing their donkey carts, while enjoying the refreshing breeze from the sea nearby. It is an exotic experience, and when you visit Lamu, life slows down, giving you the chance to fully enjoy the island; strolling along the waterfront.
10- The origin of current day Safaris
Hunting in Kenya, slowly evolved to wild game viewing in Kenya. The weapons were gradually replaced by cameras. It is here that some of the big game documentaries have been documented, and Kenya rose from hunting safaris to game drives. This is what gave rise to the modern day safaris, making Kenya as the original home of safari.
Do you want to go to Kenya yet?
Quite interest.
