The "garden witches" are small herbs: they reach 15 and 20 cm in height, and their showy flowers measure 3 cm in diameter. They have six pink petals and six yellow stamens, located in the center of the flower. They need to be exposed to the sun for good growth. During the dry season, the plant survives thanks to its bulbs, which remain buried in the ground until the next rainy season. That is, the bulbs remain dormant during the dry season and then produce leaves, flowers and seeds during the following rains.

The "garden witches" are native to South America, Colombia and Peru. Because of their beauty, resistance to pests, and ease of care, they have become popular as ornamental plants, which is why they are often seen in gardens. This widespread use has produced a phenomenon known as naturalization.
