The last time I taught my children to cook fried rice
The children were exceedingly happy and jumping for joy when the day we chose for our training finally showed up. It was on the 18th of June this year I thought it wise to teach my kids how to prepare fried rice. I had informed them earlier before this set day that we would be having a training on how to prepare fried rice. The day arrived like an uninvited visitor Staring and meeting us unprepared.Time is nothing and valueless if there are no set goals. Time is like a running tap whose whose source is not the storex or reservoir but and endless occean of waters. Time is a great dauber and also a recycler.
I loved little kids they are the best alarms that can be trusted with the duty of inducement. When I was at the verge of calling it quit they wouldn't let me have my breathe but keep pestering me.So with this goodly trouble I had no choice than to summon courage. Children are the best police with the strongest handcuffs. To be free from them only don't make promises to themif you will not be faithful.
By this time it was around 11:30am,when I was still contemplating whether or not to go on with the food training. Quickly I made up my mind sent their aunty as well as a kid to the market.Division of labour set in.I with one of the kids went to fill the gas cylinder. It a was a day out with the children. The children's joy cannot be quantified as we finally embarked on the project. It wasn't funny the other kids went fetching water, washing the plates and the cutleries. It was as if we had detailed explanation on how to divide ourselves. It was shocking as we all arrived and finished each duty unconsciously assigned to every group at the same time.
Now,we all saw ourselves standing by the table to start the cooking training proper. Present at the table were two knives,a big tray and the food recipes. The fried rice recipes that were bought that day I don't know if there are still any ,were the green peas, the leafy onions, the normal onions, carrots, green pepper, sweet corn, groundnut oil, meats, salts, curry, spicy(the green one) and thyme.
The carrots were the first to be dealt. One of the children was so funny weeping for the carrots that the carrots were about to give up the ghost. They were washed and scrapped. They were chopped into pieces of equal sizes. This requires professionalism. The next was the green peppers and the leafy onions. They were also chopped as did with the carrots. Meanwhile as this was taking place the rice was already on the fire after being parboiled. The Meats were the first to taste fire.Boiled and fried. The water from the meats was used to cook the rice to finish.
Next is the frying of all the ingredients. It was the carrots again that went first to the hot groundnut oil followed after a few seconds was the green peppers and the leafy onions, the green peas ,sweet corn and the rest of the ingredients in quick succession.
Now, here comes the final phase of our training I announced with great relief. The rice was placed back on the fire and all these fried ingredients were poured into the rice and stirred together. Here comes our fried rice.Hope you enjoyed the training.Yessss, they all chorused.
