Joanna Cole, the author behind popular children's book series Magic School Bus, died at the age of 75 in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 12.
Scholastic Media, the publisher behind her award-winning books, confirmed the news on their website.
According to a Washington Post report, her daughter Rachel said that Joanna died from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Joanna was best known for merging science, learning, and entertainment into an engaging, educational series targeted for school-age children. The Magic School Bus book series, which she started in 1986, has 13 titles, dozens of spin-offs, and has sold more than 93 million print copies worldwide.
Magic School Bus' animated TV show spin-off first aired in 1994 until 1997, and starred teacher Ms. Frizzle, her class of curious students, and the iconic yellow flying school bus.
