Do you hear the morning buzz?
As early as 4 a.m
Even before the birds of the sky
Awaken in their nest
Do you hear the hustle and the bustle
The blaring horns and loud shouts
As the day officially begins?
We rise up, the cock crows, our alarm
As we prepare our mind and body
For another day under the sun
This hustle is all we know
We have carved niches for ourselves
Struggling to prevail against all odds
When our years in the tertiary system came to naught
And our certificates, reduced to sheets of paper
We have become entrepreneurs
Botanical stylists!
Engineering marketers
Driving bankers
And oh! Teaching sociologists
In a system where we are constantly failed
We continuously thrive
Refusing to give up
With our hard earned prosperity
Holding up that which is left
Of the laughable state of this economy
They fail to realize
That this giant our nation remains
Our youths have upholded it so
Their strength and valour, rival to none
Daring to succeed against all odds
So the hustle which began at 4
Shall carry on till night
All for a nice meal, good shelter
A life of comfort
Then on the morrow we shall resume
This unending cycle of struggle
With hopes of 'E go be'
As we smile and love in our labour
Even in a system that discourages us daily
Still, they carry on
In their fancy clothes
And fancy suites
Lazying in A.C's installed with our sweat
Yet, we are the lazy ones?
Well, we all know who the joke is
I BELIEVE IN THE NIGERIAN YOUTH
