Last weekend was a very hectic one for me. I couldn't make any post or engage in two days because of the pile up of activities that needed my total concentration. It feels so good to have my life back. While away, I had the opportunity of being blessed by my parents and also given one or two pieces of advice.
My dad said one thing that stuck with me and that is, "Do not check your time with another man's clock". While it seemed so hard for me to comprehend, he further explained by making another proverb, "Do not try to overtake others, drive at your own speed". While driving, drivers are often so much in a hurry to overtake a car that just overtook them forgetting that the car you are trying so hard to overtake isn't even going your direction.
Trying to overtake another that just overtook you is what leads to accident. Drive at your own speed. It doesn't matter how fast they are going. If you are meant to overtake them, you'd surely do so. Anything can happen along the road. They can have a flat tire, meet with an accident, stop to fill up their tank and when any of this happens, you'd surely overtake them.
What area of your life are you checking time with another man's clock? Is it lifestyle, achievements, marriage or career progression? Constantly checking your time with another man's clock only brings frustration. You may end up resenting them for doing and being better than you. It brings unnecessary criticism and competition. Break out of that habit now. Try to be aware of whenever that thought is creeping in and stop it before it consumes you.
We all have our own time. Stop berating yourself or feeling bad. Think about how lucky you are to have what you have and the fact that you are alive. Celebrate your strengths. Support others in their success and focus on your own life's journey. Your life journey has nothing to do with how well others are doing or what they have done.
No matter how much you achieve in life, you will never be satisfied. You will always want more. Be good with the little you have and you will find contentment.
very good.
