Awake we are to the gory news,
Of death, young and old, nothing new,
Wrapping our heads as to the incessant killings,
Becoming inure to it as if it's a way of life.
Southern Kaduna, a hotbed of internecine killings,
Brothers and sisters killing all for game,
Religion is tinderbox of the conflagration,
Aren't we meant to live in one accord and in peace?
Leaders, a partisan in the pogrom,
As if they are in movies bordering on romcom,
You mollycoddle yours and wreak havoc on others,
What's the essence of religion in the context of things?
Is religion not accommodating and longsuffering?
Is religion not just our fate for easy access to God?
How has that become a sore factor in killing?
The rage goes on and we look on dejectedly.
Let our voices and shouts be heard,
Let our decibel of cries deafen their ears,
Let the community of yores know our plight,
This is terrible, a grievous blight.
