Pain around the teeth and jaw is commonly known as toothache.  The causes of toothache are many.  Infections, tooth decay, filling problems and gum disease are some of the common causes of toothache.  If the pain lasts for a day or two, you should see a dentist immediately.  Until then, let's take a look at some of the powders that you can try with the materials available at home.

Ice pack or cold compress

If the pain is due to injury or gingivitis, placing an ice pack can be a great relief.  The ice pack can be placed intermittently on the outside of the cheek on the side of the aching tooth.  By applying cold in this way, the blood vessels to the problem area will constrict and the blood flow will decrease, thus relieving pain and fluid.

   Mouthwash with salt water

Shaking with salted hot water can help prevent food debris from sticking to the teeth and gums.  Warm salt water is useful to reduce the water in the mouth, heal wounds and soothe sore throat.  Make a mixture  teaspoon of salt in a glass of luke warm water.  Shake in the mouth for few seconds and then spit.  People with toothache can continue this procedure from time to time on a daily basis.

Painkillers

Taking painkillers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can provide temporary relief from pain.  Be careful not to give another drug, aspirin, to children under 16 years of age.

Garlic

The medicinal value of garlic has been known to man since ancient times.  It contains Allicin which is a good disinfectant.  Take a few cloves of garlic, crush it, add salt and apply on the affected area.

Camphor or mint

Peppermint or mint has cloves like cloves that can cause numbness in the mouth.  It relieves toothache.  In addition, the camphor or menthol in it has antiseptic properties.

Dry peppermint in a glass of boiling water and wait for 20 minutes.  After that the water can be shaken in the mouth for a few minutes and then spit out or inhaled.  Similarly, after taking camphor oil in a cotton ball or cotton ball and applying it on the affected area for a while, it will give temporary relief to the pain.
