I NEVER do this...
I rarely voice my personal opinions on things for various reasons but every once and awhile, I think it is a good idea to make sure people see two sides of the coin.
Today I read a post called "The Truth About Sex Before Marriage" and I feel the need to create my own counter-post. First off, I won't link it, you can feel free to look it up yourself. Second, this is very much not "the truth" or fact my any means it is a personal opinion.
This post talks about how if you have sex before marriage you are a sinner. Then for fun they list a whole bunch of other things that they think makes people a sinner... so let's address them one by one!
Sex Before Marriage
I have done it, check mark this one. Does that make me a bad person or a sinner? Absolutely not! Sex can be many things, it can be love, it can be fun, it can be exciting, heck it can be exercise! What it is not, is a lifetime commitment, at least it doesn't have to be.
Lust
This is something that happens when you have deep passion for someone and have a very strong sexual desire towards them. This is normal, we are all human. If you have not experienced lust yourself, I personally hope at some point in your future you do, it's great. Another check mark for me.
Adultery
This one I cannot check off personally. Involuntary - I don't necessarily condone this one either... but does this make someone an evil sinner? No. It does not. We do not know other people's circumstances or what people are going through in their own lives, so we are not allowed to judge what happens in other people's personal relationships. Voluntary - some people have open relationships and agree to have sex with other people and still remain married... again this does not make them sinners. This is their choice.
Masturbation
Yes definitely, but this is 100% normal. If you masturbate, there is nothing to be ashamed of and no one should make you feel bad about it. Take care of that natural urge. Check.
Pornography
Another check. Yup, people watch porn. Also completely normal and natural. No you are not a sinner if you enjoy watching porn and again there should be no shame in this.
Lesbianism
Not sure why this is specific to lesbians? If you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, etc... YOU ARE PERFECT JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! There is no sin here, love who you want to love. Yup, that is my wife and me on our wedding day. Been together for 11 years and have a beautiful 3 year old boy together. Big 'ole check mark on this one.
Sodomy
Sorry to break it to you, but how do you think gay men have sex? Or even some straight couples? Nothing to be worried about here, definitely not a sin. Oh, and I plead the 5th on this one.
Nestiality
Am I to assume this is to mean bestiality? Sorry, but this one does not even belong in the same category as the rest... just the fact that it is listed along with everything else shows how little they think (or know) of the above. I definitely do not condone this one.
OK, so what is my point? Why did I make a rant like this? Because some people NEED TO HEAR that what they are doing is OK! When people read things like that they tell them they are sinners for doing things that are absolutely natural, I feel the need to give these people the opposite feeling. LOVE instead of FEAR.
So, love who you want to love. Feel how you want to feel. Act on your passions, you only live once. Don't regret this life and DON'T LET PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
