Crime: almost everyone in our society is very familiar with the word and its meaning. It refers to the unlawful acts committed by someone. It is considered as bad stuff in every state, religion, and society. As members of this society, we are experiencing it on a daily basis. There could be several reasons behind it, for instance, for gaining power, earning money, showing presence, taking revenge, and many more. But the one we usually exercise is the bad intentions of people towards others that usually generate crimes or sinful acts. These bad intentions give them a label of "bad people".
But does blaming just them for it make sense? I'll say NO. Blaming them is okay but just blaming them is not okay to me, and to one other person. Let me write down his words here.
The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the baf people but the silence over that by the good people
Martin Luther king, Jr.
We couldn't just blame the bad people of the society for it alone. The crime also increases because of the silence of good people. Good people have a good sense of differentiating between good and bad sides of the story. So if they don't speak against the bad stuff they are experiencing, they are encouraging it. And this courage will give confidence to the criminals to commit more. So the crimes will of course continuously increase.
There are some people in the world of crime that just need our words: our powerful words to bring them on the right path. Then why are we silent? (I am sure you know the power of words. If not, then please have a visit to a beautiful write-up on it by my tutor Mahnoor Danish yesterday.
But no, not everyone needs our soft words some need our hard words. So go with that way too, if you are capable of. If not, then speak to those who are competent. But do not be silent.
And I think the most competent are the lawmakers and the governors. They are also good people. They have a perfect sense to recognition and the power to resist crimes. They have the authority to deal with it in every possible way. In which punishment is the more prominent and effective to it. As John Ruskin stated that;
Punishment is the last and the least effective instrument in the hands of the legislator for the prevention of crime
So I think that punishment is our best possible response to crimes. It's the way to discourage them. if we punish one thousands won't go the same way. As according to "Bill Bennet"
Punishment can do a lot for criminals and send a message to the rest of society
Every one of us has a significant role in society. Individually everyone is responsible for its worsening and betterment. So if we want to have a peaceful, better, and civilized society to live in, we should do everything we can to stop the crime. May be by words, actions, or reactions towards it. Do stop the crime from your level I ensure you, the world will automatically start to follow the good path.
