2 years ago my then partner (in fact, at the top of the very mountain in the lead image, my fiancé) and I embarked on an adventure from Fethiye to Antalya called the Lycian way. Whilst in the long run our relationship didn't last, the memories of this journey will and we will both cherish them forever.
This trek is amazing, with views of the Mediterranean which are breathtakingly stunning, and history you can touch with your own hands scattered throughout. If history is your thing, then a space which is littered with evidence of its occupants which is itself an impressive list including; The Persian empire, The Ancient Greeks, The Roman Empire, The Byzatine Empire, The Seljuk Empire, and The Ottoman Empire. This hike will no doubt be right up your street, after the 5th amphitheatre you almost start to expect them, but none as spectacular as the one in Kas, I welcome you to search it and check out the backdrop on that amphitheatre as my photo doesn't show it too well, this one is also still in use today. If this was something you would consider for the history I would also recommend the museum in Antalya, you wont be disappointed I am sure.
As a westerner I also found the change of culture very welcome, the song of calling the faithful to prayer was actually, for me, a nice way to wake up and know that I am so very far away from where I grew up.
This route offers mountains, canyons, scrambling, river crossings, breathtaking views, and oodles of history, what more can an adventurer ask for?
On to the next one....
All of the photos are my own.
