Neil Blomkamp: from cinema to gaming
District 9 and Elysium director turns to video games and presents his first title
I'll tell you all the details about Off the Grid, the first game from Gunzilla Games, a studio in which film director Neil Blomkamp collaborates.
Off the Grid. This is the name of Neil Blomkamp's first major project in the video game industry. The director of District 9, Elysium and Chappie debuts with a third-person shooter with a triple-A budget and battle royale format. With that description, many will already be thinking that it is "another generic multiplayer FPS", but its creators, the guys from Gunzilla Games, have emphasized that it will be quite the opposite. According to them, Off the Grid "will evolve the genre through a strong emphasis on narrative, led by Neil Blomkamp himself".
While waiting to see how the two concepts (battle royale and narrative) fit together, Off the Grid has also announced that the games will have up to 150 players and that there will be PvP and PvE modes. The game will work with Unreal Engine 5, is scheduled for 2023 and even has confirmed platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X Series X|S. We leave you with a first and very brief teaser trailer:
Neil Blomkamp: Alien 5, video games and terror
This first collaboration of Neil Blomkamp with the world of video games comes after a last film, Demonic, which already reminded Silent Hill, The Medium and other titles of the sector. A horror film that dared to mix technology, science fiction and demons from beyond. Admittedly, it didn't do well (its 3.6 on FilmAffinity is proof of that), so let's knock on wood and hope that Off the Grid has a better result. Neil Blomkamp has proven to have plenty of talent in the past and we still regret how they canceled Alien 5, of which every now and then details continue to emerge that make it impossible to heal the wound.
