Adonis is native to the temperate regions of Eurasia. There are 45 species of Adonis. It is a perennial or annual plant with branching stems.
Adonis leaves are pinnately or palmately divided into narrow lobes. Flowers are red, yellow, single, located at the ends of shoots. The fruit of the adonis is a leaflet. Its seeds are wrinkled with a bent or straight downward spout.
