Zcash: ECC focuses its attention on the proof-of-stake's consensus model
Electric Coin Company (ECC) has published an interesting article on its blog.
Among many things the (ECC) team explained why zcash had usability issues and which strategies it will be useful to employ in order to give the user a smoother experience.
The SDK 2.0 of the mobile wallet (already available) introduced non-linear synchronization. Before it was necessary to wait until the end of the synchronization to start spending the funds, now the blockchain is synchronized in chunks, and the already synchronized funds are immediately available (Spend Before Sync or SBS for short) even if the synchronization is not yet finished.
The collaboration with the teams of some wallets such as Edge, Unstoppable, Nighthawk has been very important to find bugs and getting feedbacks.
Before going further, we need to give the hugest THANK YOU to our wallet partners Edge, Nighthawk, and Unstoppable who worked with us to test releases and submit bugs, then were quick to implement SDKs 2.0 when they were ready.
With Emergency Mode complete, ECC is turning its attention to our main focus areas: proof-of-stake Zcash, development of the Zashi wallet, continued improvements to SDKs and Zcash Core Libraries, and US Policy work.
And it would be precisely on the subject of the usability of ZEC in everyday life that the team would be thinking about an epochal turn: the transition to proof of stake.
This is a game change: Zcash doesn’t hide your transactions with some tricks like cash fusion. Zcash applies strong encryption and if the transition to this new and more advanced consensus mechanism were confirmed, Zcash would make an incredible step forward.
It would go from slow transactions to lightning fast, not to mention lower gas fees and other benefits typically derived from PoS technology.
These would be the key points to focus on in 2024:
Release the next version of the Zashi app including a new UX and UI
Transition more responsibilities to the wider Zcash community so ECC can focus on building Zashi, starting with the Decentralizing Zcash Digital effort.
Take meaningful steps in the effort to transition Zcash from proof of work (PoW) to proof of stake (PoS), Zashi’s eventual consensus mechanism, by publishing a design with security arguments, and a protocol simulator.
Maintain policy efforts to ensure Zashi and Zcash are (1) accessible and usable by people in the United States and (2) considered socially beneficial. Continue hosting notable policy events and publishing episodes of the PGP for Crypto Podcast.
Support select ecosystem teams and projects that directly benefit Zashi users
Support Brave’s integration of Zcash and encrypted media/files.
Support Edge, Unstoppable, and Nighthawk’s use of the ECC mobile wallet SDKs.
Build and/or improve Zashi features (e.g., implementing ZIP-317 and Orchard).
All these goals promises a fiery 2024 for Zcash.
