Britney Spears became a huge megastar way back in 1999 when her first single 'Baby one more time' reached number one in the UK and the USA.

She also released an her first album the same year by the same title, which also reached number one.

Britney could dance and sing and immediately gained popularity among young fans all over the planet.

The video was kind of provocative and I wonder if this was anything to do with why this single was such a huge hit.

Her second album was released in 2000 and was titled 'oops!.... I did it again' from which 4 singles were released.

Britney turned a bit more edgy in 2001 when she released the single 'I'm a slave 4 u' which was a new direction for Britney, it was darker and more risque but again was a huge hit all over the world.

It was two years before she released any new material but in 2003 she released her album titled 'In the zone' which featured a collaberation with 'Madonna'called 'Me against the music' and the massive hit single 'Toxic' for which she received her first grammy award.

In 2007 things started to go wrong for Britney, she was using drugs and her behaviour became erratic and shaved her head, she continued on her downward spiral and the news of her breakdown was widely covered by the media.

In 2008 a superior court placed Britney and her estate under a temporary conservatorship and the day after she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

Her father 'Jamie Spears' was named as the conservator.

She is still under this conservatorship today, her finances are controlled, as are many other aspects of her life.

Many people are making a lot of money from britneys estate and a conservatorship is meant for those who are unable to make their own decisions and usually for people who have dementia.

The #FreeBritney movement alleges that the conservatorship is oppressive and controlling. Britney is also forced to take medication, speak to therapists regularly and cannot speak publicly about the conservatorship.

She has been under this conservatorship for 13 years now and during that time has continued releasing singles, been on tour and even been a judge on the xfactor.

She released the single 'Hold it against me' in 2011 which went straight to number one and made Britney only the second artist in history to go straight to number one with two singles or more.

Check out Britney Spears 'Hold it against me' below.

Despite being in good enough health to perfom and go on tour she is still under the control of this conservatorship which greatly resricts her freedom.

When she refused to perfom in a Las Vegas show her therapist allegedly branded her unco-operative and switched her usual medication to lithium.

Britney is currently challenging the conservatorship in court and is seeking to have her father 'Jamie Spears' removed as the conservator.

Jamie Spears maintains that this is in place for her own protection and to stop her from harming herself.

The #FreeBritney movement really took off in 2019 when further allegations regarding her time spent in a phyciatric facililty became public.

Is this conservatorship in Britneys best interests or is it a oppresive way of controlling Britney and for many people to make huge sums of money from her vast estate.

One day will Britney be free of this?

For now the saga goes on the #FreeBritney movement will continue to fight for her freedom.

It seems that finally Britney is fighting for the same!
