These are the amazing things I learned from Bro. Eli Soriano's teaching on the above-mentioned topic in addition to my own personal research as well.

Matthew 24:1-2 (NIV)

Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings.

“Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

We have already established the truth about how the house of God in Jerusalem was turned into a den for thieves and a place where the purpose was no longer known but it was defeated by the buying and selling that goes on there daily. God was visibly angry with this act because let's not forget that He gave Solomon the blueprint for this temple.

God predicted the destruction of this temple way before it happened and Jesus also predicted the doom of it due to the many sins of the people of God back in the day. We are now in the era of grace and that's a thousand thanks to Jesus and His works of sacrifice, who left His divinity in Heaven and came in the likeness of man to fellowship with men so He can bring us back to God. What a wonderful work of grace.

The same temple that has become a den for thieves was destroyed by the Romans when they laid siege upon Jerusalem in 70AD. The prophecy of Jesus came to pass year's after He had died and I believed they must have continued in that same act that Jesus rebuked them for.

Daniel 9:2 (NIV)

in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

Nothing catches God by surprise and that was why He knew beforehand that the house of prayer would be demolished just as it was recorded in the first part that it was also predicted that the house of prayer would become a den for thieves. Why this temple and why are there no other temples? This is the major temple and the one David wanted to build but God told him his son would build it because he had too many blood on his hands. If God can make David not build it because of the blood on his hands, it shows that God wanted that temple to be holy and also known for a house of prayer but it was turned into a den for thieves, a place for buying and selling which wasn't God's purpose and that was why God allowed the destruction of it.

Daniel quoted what Jeremiah prophesied and this was what Jeremiah said that Daniel referred to:

Jeremiah 4:11-13 (NIV)

At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told, “A scorching wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse;

a wind too strong for that comes from me. Now I pronounce my judgments against them.”

Look! He advances like the clouds, his chariots come like a whirlwind, his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! We are ruined!

So, there was no longer a house of prayer in Jerusalem because it was destroyed and this can be linked to why after 70 years of their exile in Babylon and the foundation of this new temple was laid, it explained the mixed reactions that was received when the youths were dancing but the aged ones who knew how the first temple was, wept instead of rejoicing, as clearly pointed out by Ezra.

What I am able to pick from this valuable lesson is that our body is now the temple of God and what we do with it is God's business. If we allowed our body to be like the temple in Jerusalem where it became a hide out for thieves and different buying and selling takes place, God will oversee the destruction of it and it won't be in our favour even though we live in the era of Grace. We cannot be in sin and then pray for Grace to continually abound.
