What's Happening To Wolves?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been with some rough and bad patches over the last couple of games. Wolves used to be strong, resilient and classy even when delivering their goals but as it is, it looks like they have lost their mojo. There is no zeal, no spark, nothing. The only exception you can see is Reuben Neves and their new signing upfront isn't doing justice to it too. He has been struggling for goals and it's painful to see Wolves in this state.

I particularly feel aggrieved for the head coach because the spotlight has been on him for a while now with the bad patches and if this bad result continues, he might be relieved of his duties. It would take some level of loyalty for the board to stick with him.

Crystal Palace hosted Wolves and both would be hoping to have some fortunes in front of the goal and edge the 3 points. Only one man was the difference on the night and that is Eze. He delivered the three points into the hands of Crystal Palace leaving Wolves deeper into their troubles than they came to the Selhurst Park.

The game started brightly and Wilfred Zaha had a brilliant chance when he was at the edge of the box only for him to shoot wide. He has been a key man for Palace and they struggled without him. He is decisive and can pull a goal out of the hatchet on his good day. I like his directness and ability to beat defenders while getting into the box more often.

Palace had another opportunity when Zaha passed the ball to Batshuayi who brilliantly held on to the ball before laying it for Nathaniel Clyne but he blazed his shot over, much to his disappointment too.

Wolves had to respond and they did when Semedo crossed into the box and a nice little flick allowed the ball to fall to Dendoncker but the ball bounced off him to the goalkeeper. He had no control over the ball as it only bounced off him. It would have been a great opportunity to take the lead. It was very close.

Palace meant business and Van Aanholt drove in, cuts into the box after he brilliantly received a long pass. He flashed his effort across the face of the box but Clyne shot again but it was off target.

It wasn't long after that effort, a deflected shot fell to Batshuayi in the box with the goal staring at him from 3 yards out but he shockingly blazed it over. His looks say it all because, for a player of his quality, he should be scoring those chances.

The half time ended 0-0 with nothing to separate the two teams and a chance to regroup and get back to the drawing board.

The second half started and nothing could separate the two teams until the 60th minute. Nathaniel Clyne darted forward and found Jordan Ayew who smartly found Eze. Eze produced a deft touch with a good shift of his body and had a shot at goal that found its way into the back of the net. 1-0. That was the break Palace needed, much to the disappointment of the Wolverhampton Wanderers' players. Rui Patricio could have done better with that goal but then, Eze used the defenders to shield and blocked the view of the goalkeeper. It was a smart effort and that was the only difference Palace need.

Pedro Neto was at the edge of the box when he found space. He struck it low but not hard enough and it was easy save for the goalkeeper.

Neto also had a corner taken and found William Jose. He had a brilliant header with it but the goalkeeper kept it out. Wolves were trying to get something out of the game but it wasn't meant to be. The game ended in favour of Palace and Eze was the only difference there.

Eze has been excellent in his debut season and he was indeed trouble for Wolves on this day. That strike was his 3rd league goal. It was also a vital win for Crystal Palace who has only gathered 1 point from previous 3 league games since beating Sheffield United on the 2nd of January. Eze also scored in that game too.

Wolves hoped to build on the 1 point gained against Chelsea and they have now only picked 3 points from a possible of 24 points and have also won just once in 11 games since they lost their talismanic Raul Jimenez. They are struggling and hopefully, their fortunes would change soon.
