Mark 6:3 (NIV)
Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
Jesus Christ was judged not by His teachings in this instance but He was judged by His family background. Often times, we have been judged based on our background rather than the value we have to offer. They tried to belittle Jesus' achievements here because they thought 'We know Him'.
Jesus lived a normal life just like everyone and that is why they could refer to His trade and called Him a carpenter because He took over what His earthly father did, which was carpentry. They judged Him and felt someone this ordinary cannot have this much power.
He wasn't an ordinary person but He lived an ordinary life.
We have that with us these days even when those closest to us begin to wonder and doubt the potency of the things we say or can do because they felt they 'know' us. No wonder the Bible said this in Hebrews 4:15 (NIV)
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
He was an ordinary carpenter who did extraordinary things that is far above human comprehension and most people didn't accept Him because they felt they knew Him.
