This is the last part of the series we have been treating for a while. We have learned how faith alone in the case of the thief on the right-hand side of Jesus for him saved and not good works. He had limited capacity to do any good works because he has been condemned to die. If he had another day more to live, then he would have been enjoined to do as many good works as he can but seeing he would die any hour from then, his faith alone in Jesus got him saved.

We have also learned that as long as we are living, we are to do good works. Jesus modelled this lifestyle for us. He showed us how we are to live by prayer, with a constant study of God's Word and doing good everywhere we good. We are to allow our influence spread like fragrance and throw kindness around like confetti.

We have to have in engraved in us that good works and our faith goes hand in hand. We have heard, we have read and we must do. We shouldn't be like those who hear the Word the bird of the air comes down to pick it off our hearts. We should leverage on the help of the Holy Spirit who speaks constantly to our renewed minds on the good works we have to do.

What about those who do good works and yet haven't heard about the good news of Jesus? What would happen to them? It would surely be counted to them for righteousness because it wasn't like they have a choice not to hear, they just didn't hear it and just like the thief on the cross that got saved only by his faith.

Romans 2:13-15 (NIV)

For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.

They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)

Doing good works can be a way to salvation. You have heard the good news and yet you are not doing the good works, how then can you be justified? What's the point of having faith and the faith is not pushing you to do good works? You are not right in God's sight. Don't just be the hearer of the Word of God but the doer of it.

Can we see the part where God said it is not those who hear (faith comes by hearing) that would be declared righteous but those who do - those who obey. It is very important to do good works because Jesus said He was thirsty but no one gave Him water. He was hungry and no one gave Him food. He was a stranger but no one took Him in. He was naked but no one clothed Him. He was sick, no one did anything about it. He was in prison and no one visited Him. The disciples asked when they saw Him in all these but He said, as long as you have not done it to the least of these people, you haven't done it to Him. He wants us to be as concerned for others regardless of who they are as He is concerned about us that He left His heavenly glory to come and die for the sins of the whole world.

In the video I shared above, I spoke about those who do good by nature but still haven't heard about God. It would definitely be counted to them for righteousness. I gave an example of that too.

So, since we have heard and we know about the gospel of Jesus, it is mandatory for us to do good works if our sole aim is to please God because Jesus already modelled that lifestyle for us.
