We have already established the truth as seen in God's Word that Baptism is the way to Salvation. Jesus epitomized this and as much as we should desire to be baptized with the Holy Ghost, we need the physical immersion into water too as it is very symbolic just as Jesus Christ has demonstrated.
Matthew 3:13-16 (NIV)
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
Jesus had His Baptism at Jordan but that doesn't mean we have to go all the way to Jordan to get baptized too. There is no barrier in the realm of the spirit and the heart is what matters to God rather than where you are getting baptized.
Another thing that really matters is who is getting you baptized. It is important that not just anyone should get you baptized but the true minister of the gospel. Jesus didn't just go to anyone to get Him Baptized. He went to John who has been the voice of one in the wilderness, leading the way unto salvation for many people and pointing them in the direction of God. He taught people the way of the Lord and was taking the step to Baptize them as a way to Salvation. That was why he was reluctant to baptize Jesus at first.
John was full of God's Word and he teaches it as well as take practical steps towards it. This is why it is important for us to have a minister who is grounded in God's Word and who knows the significance of baptism to have you baptized.
It does not matter where you get baptized even if it is not Jordan but it matters who gets you baptized and their understanding of the significance of baptism.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
NIV:Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The one who has the right to baptize is the one who has the capacity to teach all the commandments of Christ. You are risking yourself when you give yourself to be baptized by someone who doesn't have the depth in God's Word. You need to study their contents before feeding your soul with it. Leverage on the help of Holy Spirit too and study the Word of God to show yourself approved, a workman that is not ashamed of the gospel.
