Manchester United have won nine of the 12 Premier League games at West Brom's ground and they have only drawn 2 and lost just once. West Brom has conceded at least 2 times in 11 of those 12 defeats. During Sir Alex Ferguson's last game in charge, United played 5-5 with West Brom and the first time Ferguson has ever witnessed a 5-5 draw.

United have only scored 7 goals in the last 8 meetings with West Brom. They have failed to score in 4 of those matches and, last time out, it took Fernandes' penalty to edge United past West Brom at Old Trafford with the first leg earlier in the season.

United scored again in this game and it was Bruno Fernandes who scored and that made it 50 in this Premier League season which would mean United hitting that mark in 24 games or fewer for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson's reign - when it was gotten with just 20 games.

United are on the longest unbeaten away league run in top-flight history. Liverpool just recently bettered the 18-game stretch between January 2019 and February 2020. They were also the last person to beat United over a year ago now.

Fred marked his 100th appearances for United as they take on West Brom and Cavani was hoping for three games consecutive goals too for United which didn't happen. Cavani became the oldest player to appear for United on his birthday in the Premier League since Edwin Van Der Sar last turned out in October 2005 at the age of 35. Cavani is also the oldest outfield player since Steve Bruce in December 1994 when he was also 34.

West Brom started brightly and they stunned United when Mbaye Diagne's header from close range found the back of the net after a brilliant ball in from Conor Gallagher. United was stunned but it wasn't something they were not used to. They have mostly conceded first. Brilliant ball in, wonderful header, 1-0.

Bruno found Rashford with a brilliant through ball in the 5th minute but was flagged for offside while in the 8th minute, Fred's left-footed shot from outside the box was saved easily by the goalkeeper.

There were a few offside calls for both teams as United wanted to draw level and West Brom wanted to increase their lead. Mbaye was a handful for United's defence on the day and in the 24th minute he had another brilliant header but it went wide after Pereira found him from a set-piece.

Townsend found Snodgrass and he produced another header which was easily saved by De Gea. Bruno drew United back into the game in a brilliant fashion when Shaw found him in the box in the 44th minute and he scored with a left-footed shot that went into the top left corner of the post. West Brom would feel aggrieved to have been pegged back because they were the better team by miles.

United felt angered when the referee blew for half time when United players were on the counter-attack. Most notably, Martial and Fernandes were not happy with that decision.

The half time came to a close and United enjoyed possession while West Brom had better opportunities to extend their lead.

The second half started and in the 49th minute, McTominay's right footed shot from the right-hand side was brilliantly blocked when found by Wan Bissaka. Pereira also had a decent chance in the 54th minute when his left-footed shot went just wide.

United thought they had gotten a penalty in the 62nd minute when the referee pointed to the spot only for VAR to rule against that decision.

Both teams were having a series of shots from every angle but it didn't threaten the goalkeepers much.

Diagne, who has constituted a menace to United on the day blazed over a right-footed shot from the center of the box. That would and should have been the winner.

United had last charges to nick it at the end too with McTominay coming close with a header that was blocked in the 92nd minute after a brilliant Shaw's ball to him and another notable one was when Maguire had his effort saved late at the end too.

The game ended 1-1 and United would rue their chance to close the gap on City and keep their 2 points lead over Leicester City. As it is, it shows City would be running away with the title should they win their outstanding game with Everton on Wednesday.
