Arsenal hosted Tottenham in a London Derby and it's the battle between 10th and 7th respectively. Mikel Arteta has never been on the side of a win against Mourinho, either as a player or as a coach. The match already promised to be an interesting one.
Arsenal started the game brightly and dominated the possession to limit Tottenham. Arsenal took the game to Tottenham while Tottenham sat back to soak in the pressure.
In the 16th minute, Smith-Rowe should have put Arsenal ahead with a lovely dipping shot. His effort beat the goalkeeper but was unable to beat the post. The ball struck the crossbar to a huge relief for Tottenham. Tottenham lost Son in the 18th minute to a hamstring injury with Lamela replacing him.
Lacazette received a cut back ball in the box after Smith-Rowe worked his way through from the side but Lacazette's one-time effort went shocking off the target.
In the 33rd minute, Tottenham got their lead with the first shot on target when Reguilon found Moura in the box and with a little flick, he passed to Lamela who produced a cheeky touch with his other leg. The ball found its way into the back of the net, 1-0.
In the 36th minute, Lacazette left a ball that he should have hit when Smith-Rowe played the ball to him in the box. The ball later fell to Cedric whose shot hit the post to deny Arsenal again.
Arsenal's moment came in the 44th minute when Smith-Rowe found Tierney. Tierney did so well to get the ball into the box with a low ball and Martin Odegaard pounced on it. His effort deflected off Toby into the back of the net. Game on, 1-1.
The first half ended with Arsenal dominating every aspect with Bale and Kane cutting an anonymous figure. The second half started with Pepe replacing Saka.
Arsenal also had another opportunity in the 55th minute when Lacazette turned and hit a shot but Lloris was there to save it but in the 63rd minute, Sanchez caught Lacazette in the box. The referee pointed to the spot after a bit of hesitation. Lacazette turned up and he converted the penalty to give Arsenal the lead for the first time in this game.
Tottenham's position got more difficult when Lamela was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 76th minute. Kane thought he had gotten his team back to level ground in the 83rd minute when a lofted ball into the box was headed into the back of the net by Harry Kane. The lineman correctly flagged for offside.
Tottenham started playing their best football ever since Lamela was sent off. Tottenham had been more of a passerby in this game before then with Arsenal dominating every aspect.
In the 88th minute, Harry Kane won a freekick and he struck it beautifully. His effort was denied by the upright and Sanchez pounced on the rebound only to be denied by Gabriel's header. Massive relief for Arsenal there.
In the 94th minute, Arsenal gave away another freekick which Harry Kane lined up to take. He took it but he wasn't close this time around. He fired above the bar to seal Arsenal's win. Arsenal won the London derby and that was a massive 3 points gained. Now, Arteta got one over Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho lost to an Arsenal side for the 3rd time in his entire career.
