Chilwell faced his former club and Leicester were hoping to go top of the league while Chelsea hoped to close in on the gap between them and the top four.
Timo Werner has been dropped to the bench and Tammy Abraham preferred up top. Vardy is also back to the side after the knock he picked the last time out that made him get substituted.
In the 4th minute, Mount fouled Maddison and a freekick was given. It was taken indirectly and a cross came in hoping to connect to a player but Tammy bundled it out for a corner. The resulting corner was taken short and indirect as Maddison found Albrighton who drove into the box and flashed a low cross in. Barnes miskicked it and the ball fell graciously to Wilfred Ndidi who scored brilliantly. The post came to give their helping hand too and reality set in early for Chelsea.
That was Ndidi's first goal since September last season and it is becoming his habit in scoring against Chelsea because he scored against them last season as well.
In the 15th minute, Maddison unleashed a wonderful strike that clips the crossbar. What an effort from him and a brilliant play by Leicester that led to that attempt.
In the 20th minute, Chelsea got forward and tried to draw level with Reece James. It was a wonderful effort though considering the tight angle where he had to release his shot. The keeper had to save that and push it for a corner. Mason Mount took the corner and it was a good movement from Silva to get his head on the ball but it was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
Leicester played with confidence. They had few opportunities to score but most of them were cut out by Chelsea's defence line.
In the 25th minute, Albrighton had another opportunity to score and he tried his luck from outside the box but Mendy saved and pushed it for a corner. It should have been easy save for him but he made a meal out of it and it went for a corner kick. The corner kick was eventually cleared for another corner kick too. There must be a huge commendation for the brilliant deliveries of Maddison and Justin where these corners are concerned. Brilliant stuff and top-notch too.
In the 32nd minute, Hudson Odoi had a good chance to level the matter but he went for the goal himself rather than to pass but his effort went for the side of the net and in the 34th minute likewise, Vardy blew a golden chance when he was sent one on one with the goalkeeper. He went for a chip rather than a smash and Mendy was able to get a finger on it before it was eventually cleared.
In the 38th minute, it took the VAR to overturn the decision of the referee to award a penalty for Chelsea when Johnny Evans tackled Pulisic. A freekick was given much to the disappointment of Lampard. Truth be told, the same was given for a penalty when Robinson was fouled against Wolves. VAR has been inconsistent, no doubt about that. The eventual free-kick given by the VAR was also blasted over by Mason Mount.
In the 42nd minute, Leicester silenced any hope when Maddison scored with a brilliant effort to mark a lovely goal. Vardy was shoved by Rudiger which allowed the ball to fall effortlessly to Maddison and he scored for the third consecutive games now. Chelsea has now fallen to another leaky defence away from home.
Tielemans has been trying to avoid a yellow card because he is already on the fourth one. Getting any yellow would have made him miss the next game automatically but seeing that he got through on the night, he would be saved by the 19 games rule where his accumulated yellow cards would have to be reset. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Leicester City.
Albrighton has been phenomenal on the night and in the 49th minute, without looking, he found Justin who narrowly missed adding to the scoreline when he couldn't direct his header well but it went for the side of the net while just a minute after, Abraham header was easily saved by Schmeichel.
The impressive Albrighton scored in the 55th minute but was correctly ruled for offside. It looked like Leicester was trying to toy with Chelsea now and just having chances upon chances. Two minutes after, Tielemans squandered another brilliant opportunity and the credit goes to Mendy who did so well to save that effort after Leicester broke and Vardy held the ball so well before finding Tielemans.
In the 86th minute, the substitute, Timo Werner thought he had reduced the deficit when he scored from a freekick cross to him but he was ruled for offside. I felt it was a goal as the hand of a Leicester player played him on. It seems as though the decisions were going against Chelsea tonight as the VAR denied the goal. With careful observation of Leicester's second goal, it would be known that Vardy was offside first when he first went for a header that later led to the goal.
Ziyech brought down Justin in the 90th minute just beside the box but nothing came out of it. Leicester City couldn't add to their tally while Chelsea can't half the deficit.
In the 92nd minute, Ziyech had a shot deflected. He was in a great position and he would have scored.
Chelsea now down to 8th position while Leicester has gone to the top of the table pending when United would play Fulham and City playing Aston Villa later on today - Wednesday.
Leicester City has been explosive, direct, renewed energy and they seem to know what they were doing. They have never won against Chelsea before, not their manager even but they did it with style tonight.
